SOP For Coal Unloading From Barge / Lighter Vessel for jetty officer

1. Before starting the unloading process, check the coal condition, particularly moisture
levels, oversized coal, and any foreign materials.
2. If any excessive foreign materials are found or the moisture content exceeds the
plant's design Coal Standard, do not unload until clearance is obtained from the C&H
CEO.
3. After the lighter vessel arrives, verify that it is fully covered or that the hatch is closed
with a sealed lock; otherwise, do not proceed for unloading.
4. Ensure that the barge's anchor rope is tight enough to prevent any issues during coal
unloading.
5. Monitor the condition of the ropes and the ship throughout the unloading process.
6. Unloading wet coal is strictly prohibited until management provides clearance.
7. Check for any beams in the middle of the hatch of the lighter barge or ship before
beginning unloading.
8. Before lifting any items with the hoist, inspect the condition of the wire sling, and
only proceed if it is confirmed to be in good condition.
9. Do not lift loads exceeding 10 MT during operations.
10. Maintain a minimum gap of 1.2 meters between the ship unloader and the bottom of
the barge. Be cautious during unloading to avoid collisions between the ship
unloader's reclaimer and the ship's bottom section.
11. Maintain a minimum gap of 500 mm between the side walls of the barge and the ship
unloader.
12. Never operate the ship unloader screw without coal. Stop the operation within 15
seconds if there is no coal.
13. During unloading, monitor for vibrations, temperature changes, or unusual sounds. If
any abnormalities are detected, stop unloading immediately and inform the jetty
officer.
14. Only restart the operation after receiving approval from the maintenance team.
15. If it begins to rain or if there is strong wind at the jetty, stop unloading as the situation
requires.
16. If the wind speed exceeds 20 knots, secure the ship unloader with the anchor in the
designated area.
