Abstract

In order to determine whether it’s very important for senior high school students to

learn and create a research paper or thesis and how it affects them. The researchers

want to know if the practical research is helpful in influencing the students’ skills.

The researchers used survey questionnaires to gather data from the Grade 12

respondents at Tugbongan National High School, with a total of 82 students out of

103 students in the senior high school department, according to the official number

of students from the advisers. The sample respondents were randomly selected by

the researchers using Slovin’s formula. The researchers used a descriptive design in

this study so that the researchers could inform readers and potential future

researchers on the value of practical research.

Anova: Two-Factor Without Replication was utilized by the researchers to analyze

the data and finalize the study’s conclusions. The analysis’s findings indicated that

the researchers would reject the null and accept the alternative hypothesis,

indicating that practical research has a significant impact on student’s abilities. In

other words, conducting practical research can help students become more capable

and build their unique skills.

The researcher’s conclusion is that practical research is essential for students to

build their sense of self and develop as individuals. All senior high school students

should be informed by the researchers that practical research is important and has a

4
significant impact on them because it helps them get ready for all upcoming

curriculum exits.

Chapter 1 - Introduction

Background of the Study

The study aimed to examine the positive impacts of research on grade 11

Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) students at Bestlink College of the
Philippines. The research subject had a more positive impact than negative,
enhancing students' skills and knowledge. Grade 11 students who knew how to
conduct research papers were more likely to excel in Grade 12 due to their prior
knowledge. The study used a narrative inquiry design and random sampling, with
questionnaires distributed to 100 selected Grade 11 HUMSS students. The research
subjects improved students' skills, knowledge, and academic performance,
especially for beginners. The study also highlighted the importance of relationships
and group participation.

The research subject had a more positive impact on students, especially beginners,
as they learned the importance of groupwork and relationships. The researchers
recommended conducting seminars about the positive impact of research subjects,
teaching students with clarity, and implementing strict surveillance to ensure
productivity. The study concluded that research is essential for the development of
students' skills and should continue in secondary institutions. Bate et.al. (2020)

Practical research is an integral part of the senior high school curriculum, fostering

Significance of the Study

Gr. 12 Students

Students can be more empowered to see the significance of research as a teaching

tool if they are aware of how practical research affects their academic achievement.

The study's conclusions could inspire people to get more involved in research

projects, which would improve their communication, problem-solving, and critical

9
thinking abilities. Students may adopt a more favorable attitude toward research-

oriented courses by realizing the impact that practical research may have on their

academic performance. This, in turn, may encourage their classmates to engage in

more innovative and inquiring activities.

Parents

This study will be a great help in nurturing the student’s capabilities.

Future Researchers

The findings of this study will be a guide to the Future researchers who will study this

topic.

Scope and Delimitation

The Positive Impact of Practical Research is the subject of this study, which is

conducted with senior high school students at Tugbongan National High School. It

aims to illustrate the seniors in high school the value of doing actual research.

Students will respond to a survey conducted by the researchers. Based on the

official number of students from the senior high school advisors, the researchers will

have a target population of 103 students out of 3 sections of Grade 12: Optimism,

Wisdom, and Prudence. The researchers used a random sampling of 82 students

out of 103 students in order to come up with the results and accomplish the

researcher’s goals. This study also addresses the impact that student’s participation

in practical research has on them. The responses that participants provided on

survey questionnaires will serve as the basis for this study's findings, and the

10
researchers are only able to use the responses that participants genuinely and

honestly provided.

Chapter 2- Literature Review

Introduction of Literature Review

Any research study must include a survey of related literature, as it establishes the

basis for comprehending the present level of knowledge for a certain subject. Within

the framework of applied research at Tugbongan Senior High School, a thorough

literature analysis can clarify the beneficial effects of this topic on students'

intellectual and personal development. Any research study must include a survey of

related literature, as it establishes the basis for comprehending the present level of

knowledge for a certain subject. Within the framework of applied research at

Tugbongan Senior High School, a thorough literature analysis can clarify the

beneficial effects of this topic on student’s intellectual and personal development.

Students' comprehension of course material can be improved, and their overall

academic performance can be enhanced through practical research. Students may

learn vital skills like data collection, analysis, and interpretation by working on real

research projects. Students are encouraged to think critically about topics, challenge

presumptions, and form their own opinions via practical inquiry. Students' ability to

solve problems may be greatly enhanced by the process of identifying issues,

evaluating information, and coming up with solutions. The act of detecting problems,

11
assessing the available data, and developing solutions may significantly improve

students' problem-solving abilities.

Conceptual Literature

Development of Critical Thinking Skills

Students who conduct applied research become more adept at critical and

analytical thinking. Students that undertake research gain valuable skills for both

academic and everyday life, such as question formulation, data analysis, and

information evaluation. Through this approach, students are encouraged to think

critically and get a greater grasp of a variety of disciplines, which improves their

academic performance as a whole.

Improved Academic Performance

It has been demonstrated that integrating actual research into the curriculum

improves students' academic achievement. Students are better prepared to

tackle challenging academic assignments as they gain familiarity with research

approaches and procedures. Because they understand the importance of

research in their academic path, students who are more familiar with the subject

typically get higher marks and have a deeper appreciation for the learning

process.

Enhanced Collaboration and Communication Skills

12
Group projects are common in practical research, which encourages student

cooperation. Collaborating in groups fosters the growth of their interpersonal

abilities, communication proficiency, and understanding of various viewpoints.

Their study results are improved by this collaborative atmosphere, which also

gets them ready for future professional contexts where cooperation is essential.

Related Studies

 The study explores the correlation between student’s mathematical critical

thinking skills and factors like school level, prior mathematical aptitude, and
problem-based learning strategy. It involved 140 senior high school students
from diverse educational backgrounds. The research used ANOVA and t-test
to analyze data. Results showed that problem-based learning significantly
impacted students' ability to critically think about mathematics, regardless of
their school level or prior mathematical knowledge. However, the study found
no relationship between students' critical thinking skills and their school level
or learning strategy, nor their past mathematical proficiency. Sabandar et al.
(2015).

 This study investigates the attitudes of English secondary school students

towards practical work in biology, chemistry, and physics. The sample
consisted of 607 pupils aged 11 to 15, enrolled in Years 7 through 10. The
study used a mixed methods approach, including surveys, class observations,
and focus group discussions. Results showed that students' views about
practical work were generally favorable, but they did not remain uniform
across time. Subject-specific differences were observed in the affective value
of practical work, but this value declined as students approached their 16-
year-old GCSE exams. The study suggests that the emotive worth of practical
work should be evaluated topic by subject and that optimizing the affective
value of practical work can be achieved by utilizing more of it at the beginning
of secondary education and gradually reducing it as students approach their
summative public examinations. Rachael Sharpe, I. Abrahams (2020).

 Independent Research Projects (IRPs) are often integrated into scientific

curricula in many countries. A review of literature found that 39 papers from
twelve countries were included in the review. IRPs are often linked to broader
programs like project-based learning, genuine science, and problem-based

13
learning. The review found that the aim, forms of service, assessment,
engagement of external partners, and finance of impact research projects
vary widely, affecting the quality of the impact evidence base. Most studies
examined topics like conceptual knowledge, attitudes towards science, desire
to study science when it's no longer required, and the development of
practical skills. Advantages were noted for acquiring scientific concepts,
emotional reactions to science, opinions on science-related careers, and skill
development. Research on historically underrepresented populations showed
that IRPs improved students' attitudes towards science. Jenkins et al. (2018).

Synthesis

Engaging in practical research helps students develop analytical and critical thinking

skills, enhancing their academic achievement and understanding of various subjects.

Incorporating real research into the curriculum improves students' ability to take on

demanding coursework and receive higher grades. Knowledgeable students

appreciate the value of research in their academic career. Group projects in practical

research promote collaboration, communication, and understanding of different

perspectives, enhancing academic performance and preparing them for future

professional settings where teamwork is crucial. Overall, incorporating real research

into the curriculum can lead to better academic outcomes.

Theoretical Framework

The primary theoretical foundation for this study is Constructivism, which posits that

learners construct knowledge through experiences and reflections. This theory

emphasizes that students actively engage in learning, particularly through practical

research, where they can apply theoretical concepts to real-world situations.

14
Constructivism supports the idea that practical research enhances critical thinking,

problem-solving skills, and overall academic performance among students.

Constructivism posits that learners actively construct their own understanding and

knowledge of the world through experiences and reflecting on those experiences.

This learning theory is rooted in the works of educational theorists such as Jean

Piaget and Lev Vygotsky, who highlighted the importance of social interactions and

contextual learning in the learning process

The examined data present the findings of the researcher's study of the information

collected from the seniors in high school. The researchers used Anova: Two-Factor

Without Replication to analyze the data. The results shows that the P value is lower

than 0.05, which means the researchers will reject the null hypothesis and accept the

alternative hypothesis.

In this example, we have constructed a scenario where data supports the alternative

hypothesis through negative correlation. This approach can be applied to various

contexts by defining appropriate variables and conducting similar analyses.

Chapter 4 – Results Discussion, Conclusion, and

Recommendations

Results Discussion

In this chapter, the researcher will demonstrate the findings of this study and the

result of the analysis of data in order to determine The Positive Impact of Practical

Research for Senior High School Students in Tugbongan National High School.

The researchers conducted a survey with an 82-student sample size out of the 103

total population of senior high school students in three sections of Grade 12:

Optimism, Wisdom, and Prudence according to the official number of students from

senior high school advisers. The following would be the interpretation of the findings.

In question 1, 100% of the respondents answer yes with a total of 82 to the question

Readers will learn from this study that students benefit much from conducting

practical research since it enhances their critical thinking and educational abilities.

Additionally, it improves their academic performance, vocabulary, and academic

abilities. In addition to helping students improve their fact-analysis skills, practical

research can be a great source of trustworthy information. The degree to which

students develop their skills depends on how much they learn and produce a

31
research paper or thesis either individually or in a group. These will be the answers

to the problem statement for this study.

Data analysis was done using Anova: Two-Way Factor. The p-value is lower than

0.05, indicating that the researchers will reject the null and accept the alternative

hypothesis.

The study's findings demonstrate the positive impact of practical research in

influencing students' abilities. Additionally, senior high school students benefit from

practical research not only because it helps them build their skills but also because it

inspires them to pursue jobs as researchers or even professional investigator

scientists in the future.

Summary

Readers will learn from this study that students benefit much from conducting

practical research since it enhances their critical thinking and educational abilities.

to the problem statement for this study.

Data analysis was done using Anova: Two-Way Factor. The p-value is lower than

0.05, indicating that the researchers will reject the null and accept the alternative

hypothesis. Practical research is useful for senior high school students as it

encourages them to pursue careers as investigator scientist, when they found that

research is important and interesting.

32
Conclusions

The study's findings demonstrated that students' ability to learn and advance is

significantly impacted by practical research. The information used to support the

conclusions comes from senior high school students who answer the researcher's

survey questions. Researchers are limited in their ability to respond to survey results

because they rely on respondents' sincerity and seriousness about the

questionnaire.

In order for students to learn, do research, grow as individuals, and prepare for all

curriculum exits, this study demonstrates the importance and significance of practical

research. Realizing that all senior high school students will need to conduct practical

research and produce their own goods in the future will benefit the pupils.

Recommendations

1. Researchers suggest that students should learn practical research and create

a research paper or thesis to enhance their skills and capacity. Despite initial

difficulty, terminology, and time commitment, students should persevere as it

can lead to personal growth and the development of hidden talents through

practical research.

2. The researchers would like to recommend to all students to have Time

management and self-discipline while producing research.

3. Parents should fully support their children's research, according to

researchers. Because a child who receives full parental support will become

33
more self-assured and want to complete the research paper or thesis as

quickly as possible, which will greatly benefit students who are extremely

anxious when conducting research.
