Students need to be aware that the world is in fact round and there are different cultures, people and lands in our world. As early as first grade, Georgia Performance Standards require that (SS1G3): The student will locate major topographical features of the earths surface. a. Locate all of the continents: North America, South America, Africa, Europe, Asia, Antarctica, and Australia. A knowledge of world geography is necessary for students to master this standard. Traveling is one of the best ways to obtain this knowledge and what better way to "travel" than by reading! The "Book a Trip" program is designed to take students around the world. They will learn about world geography, customs and cultures by reading stories from a variety of countries. The students will be given a "Reading Passport" which will be stamped as as way to keep up with the different countries they "visit" while on this journey.
