1. (a) India and Australia

The 3rd edition of the joint military exercise AUSTRAHIND started on November 8, 2024, at
the Foreign Training Node in Pune, Maharashtra. It is an annual exercise held alternately
between India and Australia; the last edition was in Australia in December 2023. The Indian
contingent includes 140 personnel, mainly from the DOGRA Regiment and the Indian Air
Force. The exercise aims to enhance military cooperation and interoperability for joint sub-
conventional operations in semi-urban, semi-desert terrain under UN Chapter VII. Drills
include counter-terrorism operations, joint raids, drone usage, and Special Heli Borne
Operations. It promotes the exchange of best practices in tactical operations.

2. (d) New Delhi

The 8th International Ancient Arts Festival and Seminar was organised in New Delhi by Indira
Gandhi National Centre for the Arts in collaboration with 'Rays of Wisdom Society' and
Ministry of Culture, Government of India. The special guest of the inaugural session of the
conference, Dr. Sachchidanand Joshi was there.

3. (c) Lucknow

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recently launched the state's first double-decker
electric bus in the capital Lucknow. The CM launched it during the Aakanksha Haat program
organized at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan. The Chief Minister has also announced a 50 per cent
discount on tickets for women in this double-decker electric bus service.

4. (a) Justice Sanjiv Khanna

Justice Sanjiv Khanna has been sworn in as the 51st Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. On
Monday, November 11, he was sworn in by President Draupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Justice Sanjiv Khanna was the second most senior judge in the Supreme Court, he replaced
former Chief Justice DY Chandrachud. Let us inform you that Justice Chandrachud retired from
his post on November 10, he was in this post since November 9, 2022.

Famous actor Sonu Sood has been appointed as the brand ambassador and advisor for
Thailand Tourism. The Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Thailand has officially awarded him
the title of "Honorary Tourism Advisor".

Tayyib Ikram has been elected as the President of the International Hockey Federation (FIH)

The Toto tribe, with fewer than 1,600 members, lives in Totopara village, West Bengal, near
the Bhutan border. They are a Tibetan-Mongoloid ethnic group and are considered one of the
most endangered tribes, categorized as a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG). Their
language, Toto, is Sino-Tibetan, written in the Bengali script. Totos are endogamous and follow
a unique culture of having only one wife and opposing dowry practices. They live in elevated
bamboo huts with thatched roofs and are facing identity struggles and poor infrastructure.

The 2024 Women’s Asian Champions Trophy held from November 11 to 20 at Rajgir Hockey
Stadium, Bihar. This is the first international hockey tournament in Bihar. The Indian women’s
hockey team, led by new captain Salima Tete, will defend their title. Top teams participating
include China (Paris Olympics silver medallists), Japan, Korea, Malaysia, and Thailand. The

Pandit Ram Narayan, the legendary Sarangi maestro, passed away at the age of 96 in Mumbai.
He was a renowned Hindustani musician, known for his mastery of the Sarangi. He received

The recent partnership between Tata Power and Noida International Airport is a significant
step towards the integrated use of renewable energy in the Indian power sector. This
partnership has been initiated with an investment of Rs 550 crore and aims to meet the energy
requirements of the airport completely from renewable sources. The scheme includes
provision of supply of 10.8 MW wind power and 13 MW solar power by Tata Power.

The Central Government has approved Rs 725.62 crore for the modernization of fire services
in Chhattisgarh, Odisha and West Bengal. This financial assistance has been given under the
National Disaster Response Fund, which aims to strengthen disaster management in India and
enhance the efficiency of fire services. Chhattisgarh to get Rs. 147.76 crore, Odisha Rs. 201.10

fifth consecutive year in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment Ranking 2024,

In the parliamentary elections held in Mauritius, the leader of the Labour Party, Dr. Naveen
Ramgoolam has won and become the new Prime Minister of the country. Naveen Ramgoolam
has defeated the current Prime Minister of the country Pravind Jagannath. Dr. PM Modi also
called Naveen Ramgoolam and congratulated him after his victory in the parliamentary
elections.

The Defence Space Agency has launched India’s first space exercise, Antariksha Abhyas – 2024,
in New Delhi. This exercise focuses on addressing growing threats to space-based assets and
services. It aims to secure national strategic space objectives and integrate India’s space

dependencies on space assets and identify vulnerabilities if space services are disrupted.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman launched the National MSME Cluster Outreach

will enhance financial access and resources for MSMEs, fostering their growth. The program

20. (c) Arunachal Pradesh and Assam

Power generation at the controversial Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project is set to begin
next year. The project is a gravity dam under construction on the Subansiri River, located on
the borders of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. It is a run-of-river hydroelectric project and will
be the largest in India once completed. The dam will be 116 meters high from the river bed
and 130 meters from the foundation, with a length of 284 meters. Developed by National
Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC), the project will generate 2,000 MW from eight 250 MW
units upon completion.

21. (a) Skin disease

Researchers from Australia and Germany have successfully cured patients with toxic
epidermal necrolysis (TEN) for the first time. TEN, also called Lyell’s syndrome, is a rare and
life-threatening skin disease. It is the most severe form of Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS).
TEN and SJS are typically caused by reactions to certain medications, such as antibiotics or
anticonvulsants. People with weakened immune systems are at higher risk of developing SJS
or TEN.

22. (b) Telecom Regulatory Authority of India

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India hosted the South Asian Telecommunication
Regulators’ Council (SATRC) in Delhi. The event was organized by the Asia-Pacific
Telecommunity (APT). APT is an intergovernmental organization founded in 1979 to promote
ICT development in the Asia-Pacific. APT was established with support from UNESCAP and the
International Telecommunication Union (ITU). APT currently has 38 member countries, 4
associate members, and over 140 affiliate members, including private companies and
academic institutions involved in ICT.

is being organized from 11 November to 22 November, 2024. The focus of the summit is on

The 9th edition of the Joint Special Forces Exercise Garuda Shakti between the Indian Army

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of AIIMS in Darbhanga, Bihar. It will
include a super-speciality hospital/AYUSH block, medical college, nursing college and
residential facilities. Along with this, PM Modi laid the foundation stone of several
development projects worth Rs 12,100 crore across the state.

26. (b) Arvinder Singh Sahni

Arvinder Singh Sahni has been appointed the new chairman of the country's largest oil
company Indian Oil Corporation (IOC). Sahni, 54, is currently working as Executive Director,
Business Development, Petrochemicals Division at IOC.

The Central Government has extended the tenure of India's Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri till
July 14, 2026. Misri took over as Foreign Secretary on 15 July 2024. He is a 1989 batch officer
of the Indian Foreign Service. Misri has served in the Ministry of External Affairs, PMO and
several Indian missions in Europe, Africa, Asia and North America.

28. (b) Leh

With an aim to promote sports in the country, the world's first high-altitude para sports centre
will soon be set up in Leh, Ladakh. For this, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been
signed between the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh, and the
Aditya Mehta Foundation (AMF).

29. (a) Justice Bhushan Ramakrishna Gavai

President of India Draupadi Murmu has nominated Supreme Court Judge Bhushan
Ramakrishna Gavai as the new Acting Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority
(NALSA). Justice Gavai will replace Chief Justice of India Justice Sanjiv Khanna, who previously
held the post. As per the convention of NALSA, the post of Executive Chairperson is held by
the second senior-most Judge of the Supreme Court of India.

The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has recently issued a
notification to demarcate an area ranging from 1 km to 2.035 km around Sukhna Wildlife
Sanctuary on the Haryana side as Eco-Sensitive Zone (ESZ). This is an artificial lake located in
Chandigarh.

34. (a) Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)

DRDO recently conducted the first flight test of its Long Range Land Attack Cruise Missile
(LRLACM). The LRLACM can launch from mobile ground-based systems and frontline ships
using a universal vertical launch module. It can perform complex maneuvers at various speeds
and altitudes, showcasing precision and versatility. Equipped with advanced avionics and
software, it follows terrain-hugging paths, making it harder to detect and intercept. Developed
by DRDO’s Aeronautical Development Establishment with support from BDL and BEL.
Approved as a Mission Mode Project by the Defence Acquisition Council, the successful test
boosts India’s long-range precision strike capabilities.

The 16th India Game Developer Conference (IGDC) recently held in Hyderabad. It is organized
by the Game Developer Association of India (GDAI). With more than 150 sessions and 250
speakers, the conference aims to explore trends, challenges, and innovations in gaming. It
serves as a vital platform for showcasing talent and shaping policies to advance India’s video
game industry. The event underscores India’s rising influence in the global gaming market,
addressing the need for dedicated gaming hubs and expanding the nation’s incubator

The Indian Navy will conduct the fourth ‘Pan-India’ Coastal Defence Exercise ‘Sea Vigil-24’ on
November 20-21, 2024. This large-scale exercise involves six ministries, 21 organizations, and
covers all coastal states, UTs, Lakshadweep, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The Coastal
Defence & Security Readiness Evaluation (CDSRE) phase began in October to audit coastal
defence infrastructure. For the first time, officials from the National Security Council
Secretariat will join CDSRE teams, along with State Marine Police, Coast Guard, and Fisheries.
The exercise aims to protect coastal assets and involve local communities, with participants
from the Indian Army, Air Force, and the fishing community.

37. (c) Maharashtra

A new tiger has been spotted in the Sahyadri Tiger Reserve, Maharashtra, boosting wildlife
tourism. The reserve is located in the Sahyadri Ranges of the Western Ghats and covers 741.22
sq. km. It was formed in 2007 by merging Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary and Chandoli National
Park. The reserve includes the Shivsagar and Vasant Sagar reservoirs. Historically, it dates back
to the Maratha Empire, with forts linked to Shivaji Maharaj. The terrain is steep with rocky
plateaus, thorny bushes, and minimal anthropogenic influence, supporting rich vegetation.

NASA’s Voyager 2 spacecraft, launched in 1977, made historic flybys of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus,
and Neptune, becoming the only spacecraft to visit Uranus and Neptune. It discovered new
moons, rings, and phenomena like Uranus’ magnetic field and Neptune’s “Great Dark Spot.”
Voyager 2 carried a Golden Record with sounds and images from Earth, meant for potential
extraterrestrial life. After its primary mission, Voyager 2 entered interstellar space in 2018,
becoming the second human-made object to do so. It continues sending data from the
interstellar medium, now the second most distant human-made object from Earth.

The International Conference on Communication and Dissemination of Traditional Knowledge


began at Gurugram University. It was inaugurated by Council of Scientific and Industrial
Research (CSIR)-National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (NIScPR)
and Gurugram University. The conference focused on interdisciplinary research and the
importance of integrating traditional knowledge with modern science.

40. (c) New Delhi

Union Minister Piyush Goyal inaugurated the 43rd India International Trade Fair at Bharat
Mandapam, New Delhi. The fair, organized by India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO), runs
from November 14-27, 2024, with the theme “Viksit Bharat @2047,” aiming for a self-reliant,
prosperous India by 2047. Union Minister announced plans to expand ITPO as a world-class
MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions) agency, promoting India as a top
destination for meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions. MICE facilities will be
expanded to cities like Bangalore, Mumbai, and Chennai.

41. (b) Chandigarh

The Union Ministry of Environment has notified a 1 km to 2.035 km eco-sensitive zone around
Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary on the Haryana side. Sukhna Lake, an artificial lake in Chandigarh,
was created in 1958 by damming the Sukhna Choe stream from the Shivalik Hills. The lake
covers around 3 sq. km, is 1.52 km long and 1.49 km wide, and is recognized as a National
Wetland. The catchment area has rugged terrain and is prone to soil erosion, with silt-heavy
water. Adjacent to Sukhna Lake, Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary spans 26 sq. km and attracts
migratory birds like Siberian ducks, storks, and cranes in winter.

42. (d) Mauritius

Navin Ramgoolam was sworn in as Mauritius’ Prime Minister for a fourth term after a decade,
following his Alliance du Changement coalition’s election victory. The coalition won 60 out of
62 national assembly seats with 62.6% of the vote in the November 10 election. Ramgoolam
took his oath at State House, attended by lawmakers, diplomats, and civil servants. In 2006,
he launched reforms to reduce bureaucracy and diversify Mauritius’ economy, which has
grown as an African-Asian financial hub.

Samantha Harvey won the 2024 Booker Prize for her novel Orbital, set aboard the
International Space Station. The Booker Prize is a prestigious literary award for the best English
novel of the year, founded in 1969 in the UK. The award is open to any English-language novel
published in the UK or Ireland, regardless of the author’s nationality. The winner receives
£50,000, with shortlisted authors earning £2,500. The Booker Prize Foundation, a charity
established in 2002, oversees the prize and the Man Booker International Prize.

44. (a) Solomon Islands

Researchers recently discovered the world’s largest coral colony in the Solomon Islands. The
Solomon Islands are a Pacific archipelago of nearly 1,000 islands, with six main islands and
over 900 smaller ones, covering 461,000 sq.km. It is located in the southwestern Pacific Ocean.
It borders Vanuatu to the southeast and Papua New Guinea to the west. The terrain is mostly
mountainous with forests, and the capital, Honiara, is on the largest island, Guadalcanal.

45. (a) Jammu and Kashmir

The 10-day Jhiri Mela started in Jammu, celebrating the sacrifice of Baba Jitto, a 16th-century
Dogra hero. Baba Jitto, a Brahmin farmer, died fighting injustice, promoting values like unity,
honesty, and courage. his cultural event promotes values like unity and honesty and attracts
around 20 lakh visitors. It serves as a platform for local craftsmen and showcases Jammu’s rich
heritage while providing information on government schemes for farmers.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 1st Bodoland Mahotsav in New Delhi, a two-
day event celebrating Bodo culture, language, and heritage. The Mahotsav promotes peace
and unity under the theme “Peace and Harmony for Prosperous Bharat.” It aims to strengthen
ties among Bodo communities across Assam, West Bengal, Nepal, and border areas of the

47. (b) Nagaland

The Sumi Naga tribe recently celebrated Ahuna, a post-harvest festival, with unity and
gratitude. The Sumi, or Sema Naga, is a major tribe in Nagaland, mainly residing in central and
southern regions. Sumis are known for their extensive village settlements, a unique feature
among Naga tribes. They practiced headhunting before converting to Christianity through
missionaries. The Sumi language is Tibeto-Burman, and their main festivals are Tuluni and
Ahuna. Ahuna celebrates the harvest season, giving thanks and praying for good fortune.
Tuluni marks the arrival of new crops, with prayers for last year’s bountiful harvest.

48. (c) Mobility Arrangement for Talented Early-professionals Scheme (MATES)

Australia launched the Mobility Arrangement for Talented Early-professionals Scheme


(MATES) scheme, offering Indian university graduates and early professionals the chance to
work in Australia for up to two years. The scheme is part of the Migration and Mobility
Partnership Arrangement (MMPA) between India and Australia. MATES opens in December
for applicants aged 30 or younger with an eligible degree in fields like renewable energy, AI,
FinTech, and AgriTech. Applicants must have proficient English (IELTS 6 overall, 5 in each
module) and have graduated within two years from top Indian universities. The program starts
with 3,000 places annually, and participants can bring dependents with work rights.

49. (a) Japan

Japan has agreed to provide its integrated antenna system, UNICORN, to the Indian Naval
Ships. UNICORN stands for Unified Complex Radio Antenna, and it’s a conical structure that
houses antennas on warships. The system is designed to increase the stealth characteristics
of naval platforms. On November 15, 2024, India and Japan signed a Memorandum of
Implementation (MoI) to co-develop and co-produce the UNICORN mast for Indian Navy ships.
The agreement was signed at the Embassy of India in Tokyo by the Ambassador of India to
Japan, H.E. Shri Sibi George, and Mr. Ishikawa Takeshi, Commissioner of Acquisition
Technology and Logistics Agency (ATLA) under Japan MoD. This is India’s first military
technology transfer pact with Japan. It’s also the first case of co-development and co-
production of defense equipment between the two countries.

50. (b) Lima, Peru

The 2024 Asia Pacific Economic Summit was hosted in Lima, Peru. US and Chinese leaders
recently warned of challenging times ahead at an Asia-Pacific economic summit in Lima. Asia

Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), formed in 1989, promotes free trade, investment, and
economic cooperation for sustainable growth. APEC streamlines cross-border movement of
goods, services, investments, and people by improving customs and aligning regulations. It
