Statement of Purpose Guidelines

Introduction

 A brief introduction about yourself, your focus, and your personality. Talk about your areas of
strength and personal interests like your hobbies.

Family Background

 Mention the details about your family members and what are they currently doing along with
the annual income of your parents and for how long they have been working.
 Also do mention in case your parents have been an influencing factor in your academic career.

Educational Background

 Highlight your academic background and medium of instruction at school and college with the
year of passing.
 Also mention all projects, research, internship, extracurricular activities, and training
undertaken during the period of study.
 Explain shifts in educational interests, instances of weak academic performance (repeated
failures, arrears, and consistent low marks), and breaks or gaps in education if any.
 Do make a mention of what you consider your academic strengths duly highlighting
exceptional achievements including receipt of meritorious awards, ranks, and scholarships if
applicable.
 The relevance of your course of studies to your academic and/or Employment background.
 Draw co-relation and links between prior learning and proposed course of study.

Employment History

 In case of relevant work experience kindly establish the relevance with the proposed course
of study.
 In the event of a break in service, mention and explain the same.
 In case you belong to a business family, highlight the scope and application of the proposed
course of study in relation to the family’s business interests.
 Detail your job profile and experience in the organizations you have worked with.

Why Australia compared with other Countries

 Your reasons for choosing to study in Australia rather than in your home country and any
other country. If a similar course is offered in India, elaborate on your reasons for wanting to
do it in Australia.
 Elaborate on the education system, the Australia Qualification Framework, latest teaching
methods, state of art facilities, practical and theoretical approaches, experience, and research
base professors from the industry.

Why the University compared with other Universities

 You have to draw a comparison on which other Universities you have researched/applied to
in Australia and other countries. Please list the names of the Universities and then explain why
you have chosen a particular University and mention the campus location and the uniqueness
of the university that you are looking forward to studying in.
 Mention the unique selling points and rankings of your chosen university that are available on
the university website and mention in case a scholarship received from the University

Why Program

 Your reasons for choosing to undertake the course of study are specified in your application.
 Provide a brief outline of the course subjects and the key highlights of the program you
propose to study at the university and list and explain 4 to 5 subjects that you are looking
forward to studying in your course and how these subjects will be of impact and how they will
help you further in your career.

Accommodation

 Mention where you will be planning to stay during your program in Australia.

Career Goals

 Write a brief note on what your future goals are and how you think going to Australia will help
you achieve them
 The relevance of the course to your future career/educational plans, and the Return on
Investment on completion of the program on how you expect to recoup your investment.
 Mention concrete plans of career progression upon return to your home country on
completion of your program, and list down the type of jobs, positions, companies, and salaries
you are expecting.
 Talk about promising opportunities for international students available post completion of the
program in India and how the demand for international students is currently growing
 Address what ties you have to your home country including personal and economic ties in
order to return back, in case you have a family business – how will you grow the business,
property value, and your parents?
 Mention about the Indian Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and the scope of the program in
India, India is a developing economy. Mumbai is also upgrading, a lot of opportunities in your
industry.

Student Visa Conditions in Australia

 List down all the student visa conditions and that you are aware of them and will abide by
them during your stay in Australia.
 8105 - Work limitation
 8202 - Meet course requirements
 8501 - Maintain health insurance
 8516 - Must maintain eligibility
 8517 - Maintain education for dependants
 8532 - Under 18 approve welfare
 8533 - Inform provider of address
