Infrastructure Deployment & Integration of Hybrid
Renewable Energy Based Electric Vehicle Charging
Station in Dhaka
Purpose:
The purpose of this project is to develop and deploy a network of electric vehicle
(EV) charging stations across Dhaka, integrating hybrid renewable energy sources
to ensure sustainability and reduce the carbon footprint. This project aims to
support the increasing adoption of electric vehicles by providing accessible and
reliable charging infrastructure while promoting the use of clean energy.
The globe is dealing with issues related to air pollution, rising carbon dioxide
levels, and fuel shortages. For this reason, the popularity of electric cars is growing
rapidly. Electric vehicles such as auto-rickshaws and simple cycles are also
available in Bangladesh along with electric cars. In Bangladesh, gasoline and
natural gas will be saved using electric vehicles. Thus, including renewable energy
sources into the charging system could prove to be an effective means to address
this issue.
Project Objectives:
1. Deploy a Network of Charging Stations:
o Install a total of 100 EV charging stations strategically placed across
Dhaka.
o Ensure a mix of Level 2 and DC Fast Charging units to accommodate
various charging needs. [1]
2. Integrate Hybrid Renewable Energy Sources:
o Equip each station with solar panels and battery storage systems. [2]
o Evaluate the feasibility of incorporating small-scale wind turbines
where applicable.
3. Enhance Grid Integration:
o Collaborate with utility providers to upgrade grid capacity and
implement smart grid technology for efficient energy management.
4. Promote Public Awareness and Usage:
o Develop and execute a public awareness campaign to educate
residents about EV benefits and charging station locations.
o Provide user-friendly payment and support systems.

Parking Spaces: Design dedicated EV parking spots at each charging station.
Signage: Clearly mark charging stations with directions and availability information.
C. Safety Measures:
Fire Safety: Ensure stations are equipped with fire extinguishers and follow safety
standards.
Surveillance: Install cameras for security and safety monitoring.
3. Integration with Existing Power Grids
A. Grid Capacity Analysis:
Load Assessment: Conduct a detailed analysis of the current grid capacity to handle
additional loads from charging stations.
Upgrades: Collaborate with the utility provider for necessary grid upgrades or
enhancements.
B. Smart Grid Technology:
Demand Response Systems: Implement systems to manage the charging load during
peak and off-peak hours.
Real-Time Monitoring: Use smart meters and sensors to monitor and optimize energy
usage.
4. Renewable Energy Integration
A. Solar Power:
Solar Panels: Install solar panels at charging station rooftops or nearby areas to generate
clean energy.
Battery Storage: Use battery storage systems to store solar energy and ensure a steady
supply of power.
B. Wind Power:
Micro Wind Turbines: Consider small-scale wind turbines at appropriate sites for
additional renewable energy.
5. Implementation and Operation
A. Phased Rollout:
Pilot Project: Start with a pilot project in a high-demand area to gauge user response and
operational issues.
Expansion Plan: Gradually expand based on feedback, usage data, and city needs.
B. Public Awareness:
Promotional Campaigns: Run awareness campaigns about EV benefits and charging
station locations.
User Support: Provide a customer service hotline and online support for users.
C. Maintenance:
Regular Inspections: Schedule routine maintenance checks for all equipment.
Upgrades: Plan for periodic updates to technology and infrastructure.
Exclusions:
Development or manufacturing of electric vehicles.
