INTRODUCTION
DIGESTIVE SYSTEM
The digestive system in the human body
processes food and liquids. It consists of
the digestive tract, where food passes
through structures like the mouth,
esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large
intestine, and accessory organs.
These organs work together to break
down food into smaller components for
absorption and assimilation.

VE ORGANS
DIGESTI
MOUTH
It contains the enzyme
salivary amylase produced
by the salivary glands.
It breaks down food into
smaller pieces for smooth
digestion and easy energy
conversion.
VE ORGANS
DIGESTI
MOUTH
The act of chewing and
taking the food to our body
is the first process called
INGESTION.
As it breaks down into tiny
pieces it forms into a ball
called bolus.
VE ORGANS
DIGESTI
PHARYNX
Before food moves into the
esophagus, it passes through
the pharynx, where a flap-like
structure called the epiglottis
ensures food enters the
esophagus and not the
trachea.
E ORGANS
DIGESTIV
ESOPHAGUS
The esophagus ensures the
smooth movement of food
from the mouth to the
stomach.
This movement is caused by
waves of muscle contractions
called peristalsis.
VE ORGANS
DIGESTI
STOMACH
It contains gastric juices, a mix of
acid and enzymes, that churn
partially digested food into a semi-
liquid, mushy substance called
chyme.
The stomach has sphincters, called
esophageal sphincter, a muscle
located at the end of the esophagus
before it enters the stomach.
VE ORGANS
DIGESTI
SMALL INTESTINE
Where nutrient and mineral
absorption occurs.
It has three parts:
1. Duodenum,the shortest section
2. Jejunum, which absorbs
carbohydrates and proteins
3. Ileum, which absorbs nutrients
not taken up by the jejunum.
VE ORGANS
DIGESTI
SMALL INTESTINE
It has a tiny, hair-like
structures called villi, which
increase the surface area
for nutrient absorption.
VE ORGANS
DIGESTI
GALLBLADDER
Since absorption occurs in the
small intestine, it contains
additional digestive juices,
including bile produced by the
liver, and that bile is stored in
the gallbladder
E ORGANS
DIGESTIV
PANCREAS
It produces digestive
enzymes that break down
proteins, carbohydrates, and
fats, as well as insulin to
regulate blood sugar levels.
After absorbing all the
nutrients and minerals
from food, the body
uses them through a
process called
ASSIMILATION
VE ORGANS
DIGESTI
LARGE INTESTINE
Undigested food first enters the
cecum, which is the starting point
of the large intestine.
The cecum's end contains the
appendix, a tube-like structure
that houses beneficial bacteria for
digestion and body recovery from
food poisoning.
E ORGANS
DIGESTIV
RECTUM AND
ANUS
After water is absorbed, the
remaining waste is called feces.
It is stored in the rectum and is
eventually eliminated through
the anus in the final process
called EXCRETION.
THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM IS
ARRANGED IN TWO MAIN
GROUPS:
1. Digestive tract, a muscular tube
lined with mucous membranes
where food is digested and
absorbed
2. Accessory organs, which
support digestion but are not
part of the direct food pathway.

ASSIGNMENT
Reflection Paper: Digestive System and Earth's Structure
Write a reflection in 10-15 sentences on how the Earth's
layers (crust, mantle, core) compare to the parts of the
digestive system (mouth, stomach, intestines). Explain how
digestion is similar to the structure of the Earth, and how
both systems maintain balance through their
interconnected parts.
