Plant Growth
Which colors of the light spectrum are most important for plant growth?
Question 1: Make a hypothesis about which color in the visible spectrum causes the most plant growth and which color in the visible spectrum causes the
least plant growth.
Answer 1: I think that the color green will have the most growth because the plant will absorb the light and apply photosynthesis the light that will cause
the least growth will be the violet one because the plant will reflect it.
Question 2: How did you test your hypothesis? Which variables did you control in your experiment and which variable did you change in order to compare
your growth results?
Answer 2: In the experiment I controlled the type of seed because I tested out all the types of lights on every seed. We also controlled the environment the
type of pot for the plant and the amount of time the plant had to grow. The independent variable were the lights because we put different types of lights for
the seeds we put blue red green orange and violet light.
Question 3: Analyze the results of your experiment. Did your data support your hypothesis? Explain. If you conducted tests with more than one type of
seed explain any differences or similarities you found among the types of seeds.
Answer 3: My data did not support my hypothesis because I thought that the green light would make the plant grow the most and it was the opposite it
caused the plants to grow the least. The blue light was the best kind of light for the plant in all the types of seeds.
Question 4: What conclusions can you draw about which color in the visible spectrum causes the most plant growth?
Answer 4: My conclusion is that the color blue in the visible spectrum causes the most growth and the green one was the worst. This is because the plant
absorbed the blue color and was able to use photosynthesis however it reflected the color green so it wasn't able to use it.
Question 5: Given that white light contains all colors of the spectrum what growth results would you expect under white light? I believe that under the
white light the plant would grow because it absorbs more colors than what it reflects so the plant would be able to do photosynthesis. Additionally it would
have more colors to absorb than just one for example blue red violet and orange.
Answer 5: I believe that under the white light the plant would grow because it absorbs more colors than what it reflects so the plant would be able to do
photosynthesis. Additionally it would have more colors to absorb than just one for example blue red violet and orange.
