approved inert, non-plastic material. The maximum particle size shall not exceed 70 mm
and the material shall be well graded with sufficient quantity of fines. The filling shall be
thoroughly compacted by wetting the material to the optimum moisture content to achieve
density of 97% of the maximum dry density determined as per tests 13 and 15 of BS
1377.

All surplus material shall be disposed off outside the site as directed by the Engineer/concemed
Authorities.

The precise location and ground level of each test with reference to a datum shall be recorded.

The detailed recording of soils and rocks, their stratification, structure and fabric should be made by
a suitably qualified and experience Engineering geologist competent in geo techniques. All data
pertaining to incidence and behaviour of ground water shall also be recorded.

The Contractor shall submit logs to the Engineer immediately upon completion of each borehole,
trial pit and search pit.

3. Final Report:

The report shall describe the location of this site and include details pertaining to relative levels
between the site and its surrounding with reference to a standard bench mark.

Account shall be given of the methods of investigation and testing used including description of all
equipments used. The report is to be the Contractor’s interpretation of the test results with
recommendations for founding design including observations on various levels as a suitable
solution to founding the proposed development and commenting on why any particular solution
should be rejected. The Contractor should also comment on the settlements he estimates for the
various solutions he proposed.

Calculations showing relationship between test results and recommended ground bearing
pressure, predicted settlements, etc, must be included in the report, when appropriate.

The boreholes logs shall be included and shall be prepared based on the guidelines given in
Clause 40.2.6 of BS 5930.

4. All samples are property of the employer. Samples shall be retained by the Contractor for
