3. Where should an object be

placed in front of convex lens to
get real image of the size of the
object?
A) At focus b)At 2F c) at Infinity d)
between optical centre and
focus.
4. At 10mm long awl pin is placed
vertically in front of a concave

In the following Question, the

Assertion and Reason have been put
forward. Read the statements
carefully and choose the correct
alternative from the following:
A. Both the Assertion and the
Reason are correct and the
Reason is the correct explanation
of the Assertion.
B. The Assertion and the Reason
are correct but the Reason is not
the correct explanation of the
Assertion.
C. Assertion is true but the
Reason is false.
D. The statement of the Assertion
is false but the Reason is true.

6. Assertion: The word

AMBULANCE on the hospital
vans is written in the form of its
mirror as AMBULANCE
Reason: The image formed in a
plane mirror is same size of the
object.

Section-B
7. A) Define the principle focus
of a concave mirror.
b) Define the unit of Power.
8. Why are alloys commonly
used in electrical heating
devices? Give reason.
Section-C
9. What is refraction? State the
laws of refraction of light.
Explain the term ‘absolute
refractive index of a medium’
and write an expression to
relate it with the speed of
light in vacuum.

Or
Draw a ray diagram to show the
path of the reflected ray in each of
the following cases. A ray of light
incident on a convex mirror.
A) Strikes at its pole making an
angle Theta(0) from the
principal axis.
B) Is directed towards its principal
focus
C) Is parallel to its principal axis

10. A circuit is shown in the diagram

given below.
a. ) Find the value of R.
b.) Find the reading of the
ammeter.
c.) Find the potential difference
across the terminals of the
battery.

Section-D
11. When a high resistance
voltmeter is connected directly
across a resistor its reading is 2
V. An electric cell is sending the
current of 0.4 A, (measured by
an ammeter) in the electric
circuit in which a rheostat is also
connected to vary the current.
A) Draw an equivalent
labelled circuit for the given
data.
B.) Find the resistance of the
resistor.
C) Name and state the law
applicable in the given case. A
graph is drawn between a set of
values of potential difference (V)
across the resistor and current

nature of graph thus obtained.
Or
A) Draw a ray diagram to show
the formation of image by a
convex lens when an object is
placed in front of the lens
between its optical centre and
principal focus.
b) In the above ray diagram
mark the object distance
(u) and the image-distance (v) with
their proper signs (+ve or —ve as
per the New Cartesian Sign
Convention) and state how these
distances are related to the focal
length (f) of the convex lens in this
case.

C) Find power of a convex lens

which forms a real, and inverted
image of magnification -1 of an
object placed at a distance of 20
cm from its optical centre.

Section-E
Case Based Questions:-
12. The electrical energy
consumed by an electrical
appliance is given by the product
of its power rating and the time
for which it is used. The SI unit of
electrical energy is Joule. Actually,
Joule represents a very small
quantity of energy and therefore it
is inconvenient to use where a
large quantity of energy is
involved. So for commercial
purposes we use a bigger unit of
electrical energy which is called
kilowatt hour. 1 kilowatt-hour is
equal to 3.6 x 106 joules of
electrical energy.
(i) The energy dissipated by the
heater is E. When the time of
operating the heater is doubled,
the energy dissipated is
(a)
(b) half
doubled
(c) remains (d) four
same times
(ii) The power of a lamp is 60 W
The energy consumed in 1 minute
is
(a) 360J (b) 36J
(c) 3600J (d) 3.6 J
(iii) The electrical refrigerator
rated 400 W operates 8 hours a
day. The cost of electrical energy
is ₹5 per kWh. Find the cost of
running the refrigerator for one
day?
(a) ₹32 (b) ₹16
(c) ₹8 (d) ₹4
(iv) Calculate the energy
transformed by a 5 A current
flowing through a resistor of
2 Ω for 30 minutes?
(a) 90 kJ (b) 80 kJ
(c) 60 kJ (d) 40 kJ
