Chapter 1
THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
This chapter discuss the background of the study, the statement of the problem, the significance of
the study and the scope and delimitation.
Background of the Study
Social media platforms are designed to provide entertainment and they allow you to communicate with
friends and family, to develop your interests and to learn new things, but they can also be used to earn
money in a variety of ways, including in business. In the year 2020, the Facebook app is taking the prime
position as the most preferred social media network service (Melanie Wiese, Carla Martinez, Dolores
Botella,). When the advertisement reach the target audience and consumers timeline on the Facebook,
there is a higher chance of seeing a seller's products posted on his personal or Facebook page, which
results in what we call engagement. There are numerous approaches implementing an advertising
(posting images, making videos, live selling).
The way that advertising is done in this generation is gradually changing, which is good for sellers who
cannot afford to list their goods on other major marketplaces like Shopee and Lazada.. This kind of
advertising started when the Covid-19 pandemic hit, since we are not able to go out and go to their
physical store and specifically sell the products. In the year 2021, 93 percent (93%) is the number of
marketers stated that they used Facebook as part of digital campaigns; this article is according to
(statista.com). Facebook advertising has been found to have mixed results for both businesses and
people (IJMHS) (Shweta Singh, Shinu Shukla, 2022). Due to the numerous privacy-related controversies
that have surrounded Facebook's advertising platform in recent years (Athanasios Andreou, Márcio Silva,
Fabrcio Benevenuto, Oana Goga, Patrick Loiseau, Alan Mislove, 2019), we are unable to conclusively
state or demonstrate that Facebook advertising is truly effective. This is because not all consumers have
faith in all brands, and scams are a major factor in making.
The majority of Facebook users are young consumers with the means to buy goods that have caught
their attention and appeal. However, every perception of a customer can be positive or negative
depending on the seller's attitude and marketing techniques. All marketers continue to have more
opportunities to sell and promote their goods as well as their network channels because of this form of
advertising.
Statement of the Problem
Objective
To get the opinions and perception of Cluster 9 Grade 11 students towards posting products on Facebook
platform and to determine the knowledge of the students about Facebook platform as a new way of
advertising and how it affects them.
General Question:
How this strategy affects the students' decision to buy or not to buy a product on social media, especially
on Facebook.
Specific Questions:
1. How is buying a product on Facebook different from shopping malls for students?
2. What is the positive effect to the student of buying a product in Facebook?
3. What is the negative effect to the student of buying a product in Facebook?
Significance of the Study
This study aims to increase the understanding of students towards Facebook advertising within the
environment of social media and how it affects their perception.
Students. The impact of these study findings can provide most of students with a better knowledge on
how Facebook is being used most in making an advertisement.
Teachers. As a second parent of students, they need to identify the factors that students consider when
purchasing and buying school stuff in an online store.
.Sellers. Product marketers will be aware what kind of advertising can get engagement and what stuff is
preferred most of young consumers.
Overall, to the study results, it is found that it is meaningful for marketers to establish a presence in social
media especially on Facebook. It is proved to be an effective channel for marketers to promote products
and build brands. Some strategies relating to the Facebook marketing are also concluded based on the
case (DI, YANG: Spring 2014)
Scope and Delimitation
The scope of this study is only limited to product posting using Facebook as a new form of advertising,
and because the other platform that is also used in promoting their product has nothing to do with this
topic. We want to get and collect the opinion of every grade 11 students in cluster 9 towards Facebook
advertising and how it affects them and what are the things they consider when buying products in
Facebook store.
Researchers do not include other consumers' perceptions and opinions, but grade 11 students who only
go to Jose Rizal Campus and have an experienced buying products on the Facebook platform, other
grade schools students are excluded as well as, behavior and attitude of consumers and that is the
delimitation of this study.
