10. The height and the slant height of a solid right circular cone are 56 cm and 70 cm respectively.
(a) Find the curved surface area of the circular cone in terms of . (3 marks)
(b) The circular cone is divided into four parts by three planes which are parallel to its base. Each part
has the same height. Denote the four parts that A is the cone, B, C and D are frustums in which B is
the smallest one while D is the largest one. Someone claims that the difference of the curved surface
areas between A and B is equal to that between C and D. Do you agree? Explain your answer.

It is given that the median, the range and the inter-quartile range of the scores of Mathematics Examination
in S.6A class are the same as those in S.6B class.

(b) Let V be the vertex of the graph of y = f(x). The graph of y = 2f(x) – 240 cuts the x-axis at two
points A and B.
(a) (i) Describe the geometric relationship between and the line segment AB.
(b) It is given that the coordinates of the point D are (25, 20).
(ii) Q is the point (13, –16). Someone claims that ABD + AQD = 180. Is the claim correct?

(b) On the same rectangular coordinate system, denote the vertex of the graph of y = g(x) and the vertex
of the graph of y = 5g(x + 3) by V and T respectively. V is a point lying in Quadrant I.
(i) Write down, in terms of k, the coordinates of T.
(ii) Helen claims that T lies in Quadrant II. Do you agree? Explain your answer.
(iii) L is a straight line passing through V and T. Let R be the region (including the boundary)
bounded by L, the x-axis and the y-axis. It is given that R represents the solution of a system
