Background of the Study
SCOPE
Introduces the purpose of the study and states the
relevance of the current study within its field of
knowledge
Discussion of all the variables or the phenomenon under
study
Highlights the research problem
Theoretical Framework
Introductory statement enumerating the theories to be
used
Specific theory/theories with the respective authors and
years of publication
Substantial description of the theory/theories used
Explanation of the relevance of theory/theories to the
study
Studies that made use of the theory/theories
Conceptual Framework
Concepts and studies explaining the connections between
the variables
Schematic Diagram showing the variables and the
respective constructs (if there is any) or of the themes
identified (for a qualitative study)
Put the Schematic Diagram in one page.
Statement of the Problem
Introductory statements
Questions to be answered based on the variables
identified (quantitative study) or the Research Questions
to be given answers (qualitative study)
Null Hypotheses (for quantitative studies)
Significance of the Study
Mentions the importance of studies and researches on:
Stakeholders
Educators
Administrators and entities who can benefit from your
study
Scope and Delimitations
Scope:
Target research participants (be specific)
Who are those that will not be included
The main focus of your study (the boundary of the
study)
Limitation:
Admission of weakness (to provide strength to your
study
Definition of Terms
Provide introduction
Conceptual/Operational definitions of the variables or
phenomenon
Define only important terms (keywords of the title)
Simple and familiar words are preferred in defining
terms.
The terms defined should be arranged alphabetically.
Acronyms should be spelled out completely, especially
if it is uncommon or will be used the first time in the
research paper.
Chapter 2 – REVIEW OF RELATED
Related Literature and Related Studies
LITERATURE AND STUDIES
Literature and studies are directly related to your
research topic or problem.
Select literature that is related to your specific topic and
field of interest or field of specialization.
Select literature that uses evidence.
Select literature and studies that are current.
Select literature published locally and internationally
(Sources are from reputable journals, books, or academic
institutions)
Research Gap
Discuss the research gap by referring to the study of
Miles 2017.
Synthesis
Combine findings from different studies to highlight
major patterns or themes.
Focus on how the studies complement or contrast with
one another.
Chapter 3 –METHODOLOGY Design
Statement indicating the specific design that the study
will be using (e.g., descriptive, correlation)
Definition of the design (with the respective author and
year of publication)
Statement showing the relevance/usefulness of the design
to the study
Setting
Opening statement indicating where the study will be
conducted, without indicating the specific names of the
institutions (e.g., schools, hospitals)
Bases/basis of the selection of the research areas
Relevant pieces of information giving picture of the
research setting.
Respondents
Specific individuals who will answer the research
instruments to be used or who will participate in the
interviews to be conducted
Justification for the selection of the
respondents/participants.
Population of the target respondents
Number of the respondents/participants
Sampling technique to be used (e.g, stratified random
sampling)
Method of determining the sample size (Raosoft online
application, etc.)
Inclusion criteria/Bases for the selection if who will be
included
Exclusion Criteria/ Statement indicating if who will not be
included
Instrument/s
Introductory statement for the instruments to be used:
Individual presentation of the research instruments to be
used according to the order of the variables
Description of each instrument/checklist (quantitative
study)
o If adopted or adapted/modified, or researcher-
made/standard instrument
o Total number of statements present in the
instrument, specifically indicating the constructs
o Validation process (for instruments not adopted
from a previous study)
o Pilot testing for reliability test
o Cronbach’s Alpha (for instruments which will
undergo reliability test)
o Scale/continuum
- Responses – Continuum-Interpretation
Data-Gathering Procedure
Asking of permission from appropriate authorities (e.g.,
department heads)
The process of the distribution and retrieval of the
questionnaires, conduct of tests and intervention
The duration of the administration of the
questionnaires/tests or the conduct of the study
The specific sequence of the administration of the
questionnaires/tests.
