PREBOARD I SCIENCE X (SESSION 2024-25)


MAX MARKS: 80 TIME: 3 HRS
General instruction:
 This question paper consists of 39 questions in 5 sections.
 All questions are compulsory. However, an internal choice is provided in some questions. A student
is expected to attempt only one of these questions.
 Section A consists of 20 objective type questions carrying 1 mark each.
 Section B consists of 6 Very Short questions carrying 02 marks each. Answers to these questions
should be in the range of 30 to 50 words.
 Section C consists of 7 Short Answer type questions carrying 03 marks each. Answers to these
questions should be in the range of 50 to 80 words.
 Section D consists of 3 Long Answer type questions carrying 05 marks each. Answer to these
questions should be in the range of 80 to 120 words.
 Section E consists of 3 source-based/case-based units of assessment of 04 marks each with sub-
parts.
SECTION-A

34.(a) Draw a neat labelled diagram of refraction of a prism to show the angle of deviation.
(b) A convex lens forms a real and inverted image of a object at a distance of 50 cm from it. Where is the
object placed in front of the convex lens if the image is equal to the size of the object? Also, find the
power of the lens.
OR
(a)Several electric bulbs designed to be used on a 220 V electric supply line, are rated 10 W. How many
lamps can be connected in parallel with each other across the two wires of 220 V line if the maximum
allowable current is 5A .
(b) Differentiate between permanent magnet and electromagnet.
35. What are sexually transmitted diseases? Write two examples each of sexually transmitted diseases caused
by (i) virus, (ii) bacteria. Explain how the transmission of such diseases is prevented?
OR
Explain the process of regeneration in Planaria with diagram. How is this different from reproduction?
36.(a)Two carbon compounds ‘X’ and ‘Y’ have the molecular formula C3H6 and C4H10 respectively.
Which one of the two is most likely to show addition reaction? Also, give a chemical equation to explain
the process of addition in this case.
(b)What is denatured alcohol? Why is ethanol denatured? State any two uses of ethanol.

Raina while doing certain reactions observed that heating of substance ‘X’ with vinegar-like smell with
a substance ‘Y’ (which is used as an industrial solvent) in the presence of conc. Sulphuric acid in a water
bath gives a sweet-smelling liquid ‘Z’ having molecular formula C4H8O2. When heated with caustic soda
(NaOH), ‘Z’ gives back the sodium salt of and the compound ‘Y’.
Identify ‘X’, ‘Y’, and ‘Z’. Illustrate the changes with the help of suitable chemical equations.

SECTION - E
(Q.No. 37 to 39 is case – based questions with 2 to 3 short sub- parts. Internal choice is provided in one of
these sub- parts)
37. The rate of flow of charge is called electric current. The SI unit of electric current is Ampere (A). The
direction of flow of current is always opposite to the direction of flow of electrons in the current. The
electric potential is defined as the amount of work done in bringing a unit positive test charge from
infinity to a point in the electric field. The amount of work done in bringing a unit positive test charge
from one point to another point in an electric field is defined as potential difference.
(i) How much current will an electric bulb draw from a 220 V source, if the resistance of the bulb
filament is 1200 Ω?
(ii) How much current will an electric heater coil draw from a 220 V source, if the resistance of the heater
coil is 100 Ω?
(iii) The potential difference between the terminals of an electric heater is 60 V when it draws a current of
4 A from the source. What current will the heater draw if the potential difference is increased to 120 V?
OR
When a 12 V battery is connected across an unknown resistor, there is a current of 2.5 mA in the
circuit. Find the value of the resistance of the resistor.
38. In the electrolytic refining of copper. The electrolyte is a solution of acidified copper sulphate. There are
an anode and cathode. Refining is carried out by passing an electric current.
(i) How is copper extracted from its sulphide ore?
OR
Write the reaction involved in the extraction of copper from its ore by electrolytic refining.
(ii)What is the cathode and anode made up of in the electro refining of copper?
(iii) Define anode mud.
39. The endocrine system consists of specialized groups of cells called glands that make, store, and release
regulating chemicals called hormones directly into the bloodstream to regulate how the body functions.
(i) Name two endocrine glands associated with the brain and write their one function.
