Sub: 160 KN Air Springs in LHB Coaches.

In process of standardization of 160 kN air springs in LHB coaches as decided vide
MOM of 18th CMG meeting, PUs have already been advised to plan future production of
LHB Non-AC GS coaches & LHB AC 3 Tier coaches with 160 kN air springs in
secondary suspension with transportation code LS-5A & LWACCNAA respectively. It is
further intimated that final speed certificate has also been issued for LHB AC-III Tier
Economy coach (LWACCNE) coaches fitted with 160 kN air springs in secondary stage
and Railway Board has accorded sanction for introduction in IR for operation of the
same.
Moreover, final speed certificates for remaining Non-AC LHB coaches i.e. LHB Non
AC Chair Car (LWSCZAA), LHB 3-Tier Sleeper Non-AC coach (LWSCNAA) & LHB
File No.RDSO-CARR0VDG(AS)/1/2020-O/o ED/CARRIAGE/RDSO
Non-AC Second Class cum Luggage and Brake Van with Compartment for Divyangjan
passenger (LSLRDAA) fitted with 160 kN Air Springs in secondary stage have also
been issued by RDSO and cases have also been forwarded by CCRS to Railway Board
for sanction.
In view of the above, PUs are requested plan future production of LHB Non-AC EOG
GS coaches (LS-5A), LHB EOG AC-3 Tier coaches (LWACCNAA), LHB AC-III Tier
Economy coaches (LWACCNE), LHB Non AC Chair Cars (LWSCZAA), LHB 3-Tier
Sleeper Non-AC coaches (LWSCNAA) & LHB Non-AC Second Class cum Luggage and
Brake Van with Compartment for Divyangjan passenger (LSLRDAA) with 160 kN air
springs in secondary stage, for standardization of 160 kN air springs in LHB coaches.
For defective air springs of already manufactured LHB Non AC GS coaches, LHB Non
AC Second class cum luggage and brake van with compartment for Divyangjan
passengers coaches, LHB Non AC Chair Cars & LHB 3 Tier Sleeper Non AC coaches
with 140 kN air springs and LHB 3 Tier AC coaches with 120 kN air springs,
procurement of only 160 kN air springs should be planned at Zonal Railways. All 4 air
springs in the coach shall be replaced with 160 kN air springs while ensuring both air
springs in a bogie are of same make during the maintenance by the Zonal Railways.
During the replacement, all four 140 kN air springs or 120 kN air springs of the coach
should be changed with set of 160 kN (all 04 air springs) air springs. After replacement
with 160 kN air springs, transportation codes of the coaches shall be modified to LS-5A
for LHB Non-AC EOG GS coaches, LWACCNAA for LHB EOG AC-3 Tier coaches,
LWSCZAA for LHB Non AC Chair Cars, LWSCNAA for LHB 3-Tier Sleeper Non-AC
coaches & LSLRDAA for LHB Non-AC Second Class cum Luggage and Brake Van with
Compartment for Divyangjan passenger with 160 kN air springs by Zonal Railways.
However, other released 140 kN & 120 kN air springs found OK in such coaches may
be used as spare for maintenance purpose for use in other coaches.
