Synopsis
“An Evaluation study of Mid-Day Meal Scheme in Gadag district vis-a-vis Koppal
district of Karnataka”
Introduction
The mid-day meal (MDM) program in India was introduced in 1925 for disadvantaged
children of a school managed by Madras Municipal Corporation.
Subsequently the scheme was introduced in 1995 by the Ministry of Human Resource
Development in collaboration with Department of School Education.
The National programme of Nutritional Support to Primary Education (NP-NSPE) was
revised in September 2004. At present, the NP-NSPE programme is the world’s largest
school feeding program.
The study will be undertaken with the focus on the following objectives:

Methodology:
Study area: The study will be conducted in Gadag and Koppal districts of Karnataka.
Sampling: Random sampling technique

Sources of data
Primary data: The primary data will be collected from children studying in primary and
middle schools in Gadag (60) and Koppal (60) districts.
The data will also be collected from 20 teachers from 20 schools and also from
parents (20) in Gadag and Koppal districts.
Besides the data will also be collected from officers belonging to CEO of Zilla
Panchayat, Deputy Director of Public Instructions, Executive officer of Zilla Panchayat,
Assistant Director of Public Instructions and Block Educational Officer (10).
Secondary data: The secondary data will be collected from the records maintained by
primary and middle schools and Zilla Panchayat with respect to groceries and other food
items supplied to each school for the period from 2010-2018.
Further the records related to other forms of assistance like funds for constructions
of kitchen, store room, water tank, steel plates and cups and other utensils etc.,
The secondary data with respect to the above will be collected for the period from
2010-2018
