Topic: Global Climate Change
General Purpose: To inform
Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about climate change, and how it is important in
society.
Central Idea Climate change means that the range of conditions expected in many regions will
change over the coming decades.
Visual Aids: PowerPoint
Introduction:
Have you heard people in videos talking about climate change? Ever wondered what it is and
why we care about it so much? Attention Getter Global warming is a growing concern of
scientists and researchers who believe that it is a fundamental problem for our planet. The
concerns and research have also been questioned and have even been called myths. Millions of
people find themselves affected by these weather changes and are concerned for their futures.
Credibility Statement: Climate change is a growing concern in today’s world. We often hear
about worldwide temperature rises, and how they are caused by pollution. Today I will inform
you about what climate change is, and how it affects the world.
Related Topic: Today I will be talking to you about the cause and effect on climate change and
talk about ways that we can help to reduce climate change
Body
I. Cause of Climate Change
A. Generating Power
Generating electricity and heat by burning fossil fuels causes a large chunk of global emissions.
Most electricity is still generated by burning coal, oil, or gas, which produces carbon dioxide and
nitrous oxide – powerful greenhouse gases that blanket the Earth and trap the sun’s heat.
B. Cutting forest
Cutting down forests to create farms or pastures, or for other reasons, causes emissions, since
trees, when they are cut, release the carbon they have been storing.
C. Manufacturing goods
Machines used in the manufacturing process often run on coal, oil, or gas; and some materials,
like plastics, are made from chemicals sourced from fossil fuels.
Transition: Now that we have talked about the cause of climate change, let us look at some
effects of climate change
II. What are some effects of Climate Change
A. More severe storms
Changes in temperature cause changes in rainfall. This results in more severe and frequent
storms. They cause flooding and landslides, destroying homes and communities, and costing
billions of dollars.
B. Increased drought
Rising temperatures make wet regions wetter and dry regions drier.
C. Not enough food
Changes in the climate and increases in extreme weather events are among the reasons behind a
global rise in hunger and poor nutrition.
D. Health risk
Climate change is the single biggest health threat facing humanity. Climate impacts are already
harming health, through air pollution, disease, extreme weather events, forced displacement,
pressures on mental health, and increased hunger and poor nutrition in places where people
cannot grow or find sufficient food.
Transition: Now that we have talked about the cause and effect on climate change, let us
look at some solutions that can help prevent climate change.
III.What are some solutions to Climate Change
A. Eating more fruits and vegetables
Eating more vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds, and less meat and dairy,
can significantly lower your environmental impact.
B. Clean up the environment
When you throw something out, dispose of it properly. Educate others to do the same, and
participate in local clean-ups of parks, rivers, beaches and beyond.
C. Government role in helping
Governments can implement and enforce regulations that can help to protect the environment
and promote sustainable practices. This can include regulations on pollution, waste disposal, and
resource extraction.
Conclusion
Climate change refers to significant and long-term changes in the Earth's climate, including
rising temperatures, shifting weather patterns, and more extreme weather events. It is important
because it has widespread impacts on the environment, human health, and economies.
Addressing climate change is crucial to protecting the planet and ensuring a sustainable future
for generations to come. Thank you for listening. Do have a wonderful day
