10. Two statements are given below - one labelled Assertion (A) and the other labelled
Reason (R). Read the statements carefully and choose the option that correctly
describes statements (A) and (R).

Assertion (A): Centre of the circle 𝑥 2 + 𝑦 2 - 8x + 10y - 11 = 0 is (4, - 5)

Reason (R): Coordinates of centre of the circle 𝑥 2 + 𝑦 2 + 2gx + 2fy + C = 0 is (- g, -f )

B) Both (A) and (R) are true but (R) is not the correct explanation for (A).
C) (A) is true but (R) is false.
D) (A) is false but (R) is true.

SECTION B
(Section B consists of 3 questions of 2 marks each)

11. The perpendicular from the origin to a line meets it at the point (- 2, 9). Find the equation
of the line.

12. Find the coordinates of foci and vertices of the hyperbola 16𝑦 2 − 9𝑥 2 = 144.
OR
If one end of the diameter of a circle 𝑥 2 + 𝑦 2 – 4x – 6y + 11 = 0 is (8, 4), find the
coordinates of the other end of the diameter.

13. Find the point in XY - plane which is equidistant from the points A(2, 0, 3), B(0, 3, 2) and
C(0, 0, 1).

SECTION C
(Section C consists of 2 questions of 3 marks each)

centre on the line x - 4y = 1.

15. The sum of three numbers in G.P. is 56. If we subtract 1, 7, 21 from these numbers in
that order, we obtain an arithmetic progression. Find the numbers.
OR
The lengths of three unequal edges of a rectangular solid block are in GP. If the volume
of the block is 216 cu. cm and the total surface area is 252 sq. cm, then find the
dimensions of the cuboid.

SECTION D
(Section D consists of 2 questions of 5 marks each)

16. The sum of two numbers is 6 times their geometric mean. Show that the numbers are in

SECTION E
Case Study 1

18. A person standing at the junction (crossing at the point O) of two straight paths
represented by the equations 2x - 3y + 4 = 0 and 3x + 4y - 5 = 0 wants to reach the path
whose equation is 6x - 7y + 8 = 0 in the least time.

(i) What is the coordinate of the point O?

(ii) Find the slope of the line AB.

(iii) Find the equation of the path that he should follow to reach the point O in the least
time.
OR
(iii) Find the perpendicular distance of the point O from the line AB.

Case Study 2

19. A beam is supported at its ends by supports which are 12 m apart. Since the load is

concentrated at its centre, there is a deflection of 3 cm at the centre and the beam is in
the shape of a parabola. Now considering the centre of beam is at origin as shown in
figure. Based on the above information, answer the following questions.

(i) Write the equation of the parabola.

(ii) How far from the centre is the deflection 1 cm ?

OR
(ii) Find the equation of a parabola with focus (0, - 3) and directrix y = 3.
