1.
WHY IS NETIQUETTE IMPORTANT
Using netiquette online is very important because it provides a sort of social norm in an online environment.
When in a real life classroom, participating in an face to face discussion, each participant has a general sense of how
to act in a civil manner and act within given social norms that we have learned to abide by throughout our lives.
The rules of etiquette that apply when communicating online are different from those that apply when
communicating in person. It cannot be assumed that students automatically know how to communicate in an online
environment. Netiquette rules have emerged to facilitate online interactions in the absence of visual and auditory
cues, which can often be sources of misunderstandings, as readers can easily misinterpret messages. Knowledge of
network etiquette discourages inappropriate online conduct and conflict. Class interactions using netiquette
encourage social interactions, community building, and trust between participants. It promotes a safe, engaging,
respectful, and collaborative group where diversity of opinion is valued. When I am addressed with a bad
netiquette I feel degrading and not respected, not regarded and taking for granted, and I know that others feel same
when addressed with a bad netiquette too.
HOW TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE OF BAD NETIQUETTE
When emailing your professor, its best to be formal. If you’re not sure. Say otherwise; avoid slang like hey sup or
cheers. Instead, hello, how are you and sincerely communicate with Professionalism. So thoroughly explain your
reason for reaching out. Remember to think twice before hitting reply all. Especially if your email is meant to
address only one person. When asking for extensions, for example, for assignments or Labs please use the words,
please, and thank you. Finally, do reach out, we love your emails. Be honest but thoughtful and constructive. Even
still, you may have to clarify your words if others misconstrue or misunderstand them. Be careful and kind with
your words. Do not write when you are angry. But if you write then sleep on it, reread it, edit it, and then post your
thoughts. And please don’t write in all capitals. It reads like you’re creaming and the same goes for exclamation
marks. But do share your ideas and voice with others. You have so much to teach other people.
2. HOW DOES NETIQUETTE RELATES TO PEER ASSESSMENT
Netiquette relates to peer assessment because it is almost like an asynchronous one on one discussion. It is
important to be respectful while assessing a student's assignment even if you may not agree with their view
expressed in the assignment. The whole purpose of giving feedback is to help each other improve on our skills so
we can all succeed in passing the course. Not following the proper netiquette will counteract this.
GIVING FEEDBACK
Giving a good netiquette in feedback is important. The feedback given to my peers helps them improve on their
writing and in getting real insights from my fellow students or instructors. It also allows one to gain a deeper
understanding of what we are learning.
3. What i feel about the feedback this week and what feedback I gave
I feel great for having the privilege to access my peers work and give a feedback on their work, the feedback I
received good and its helping me strive more and do my best. The feedback I gave is just “ok” and I think based on
the above, it is a good netiquette.
