In this Assignment 3, I chose the essay topic “Infrastructure and Economic Impact:
Infrastructure includes the essential facilities and systems serving a country, region, or
community, such as roads, healthcare facilities, and utilities. Consider a country experiencing
insufficient infrastructure, such as deteriorating roads and inadequate healthcare facilities.

potential impacts on economic growth, business operations, and quality of life for citizens.
Provide specific examples or hypothetical scenarios to illustrate your points. Here is the result

Infrastructure and Economic Impact: A Review of Developing Countries
Adequate infrastructure is the backbone of a country's economic growth. In many
developing countries, such as Indonesia, inadequacies in infrastructure such as roads, utilities,
and health facilities have been a major impediment to economic development. For example,
damaged roads can delay the delivery of goods, increase logistics costs, and reduce the
productivity of companies. This impact goes on to decrease investment attractiveness, where
investors tend to be reluctant to invest in areas that do not have good access or adequate
supporting infrastructure. As such, poor infrastructure has the potential to create an intractable
cycle of poverty, where economic growth is hampered and people's quality of life declines.
Insufficient infrastructure also affects business operations. For example, a factory in an
area that lacks good road access will have difficulty distributing products, resulting in late
deliveries and, ultimately, lost customers. A study by Prabowo (2020) shows that limited access
to basic infrastructure can reduce business efficiency by up to 30%, which has a direct impact
on revenue and profits. As such, business activities are limited and unable to expand, resulting
in a lack of employment and limited options for people's consumption. This creates a domino
effect where people's purchasing power decreases, further widening economic disparities
Furthermore, the quality of life of citizens is also greatly affected by the condition of
infrastructure. Inadequate health facilities, for example, can result in a poor level of public
health, which in turn reduces labor productivity. According to research by Suwarno (2021), in
the Indonesian context, poor access to health services results in lost labor productivity potential
estimated at trillions of rupiah annually. This shows how important infrastructure is in creating
an ecosystem that supports sustainable economic growth. Therefore, the government and local
stakeholders should invest in infrastructure projects that strengthen transportation, utilities, and
health networks to drive inclusive economic growth and improve people's quality of life.
