3 (Three Phase Power Calculations)
Q1.
Two industrial plants represent balanced three-phase loads. The plants receive their power from a
balanced three-phase source with a line voltage of 4.6 kV rms. Plant 1 is rated at 300 kVA, 0.8 pf lagging
and plant 2 is rated at 350 kVA, 0.84 pf lagging. Determine the magnitude of the line current.

Q2.
A balanced three-phase source furnishes power to the following three loads:
Load 1: 6 kVA at 0.83 pf lagging
Load 2: unknown
Load 3: 8 kW at 0.7071 pf leading
If the line current is 84.6 A rms, the line-line voltage at the load is 208 V rms, and
the combined load has a 0.8 pf lagging, determine the unknown load (P and Q).

Q6.
For the three-phase balanced system shown below find the four ammeter readings. Please note that the
ammeter will read only the magnitude of the current.
