3. Problem Definition

3.1 List important local issues faced by your school

or community

Recurring infections in the society

•Problem in differentiating between
infected and normal people
•People avoid wearing mask and use
alternatives like handkerchief, stall.

3.2 Which issues matter to you and why?

Safety of the majority is the main concern

because problem of recurring infections
disturbs the schedule of the institutions.

3.3 Which issue will you focus on?

Issue of people avoiding

the protective face mask
and using other
alternatives.

8
3.4 Write your team’s problem statement in the format below.

How can we help the institutions/school find a way to

identify people/staff [do what] so that they can avoid
frequent infections spreading in the society.

Problem Definition

1 point - A local problem is described

2 point - A local problem which has not been fully solved before is described.

3 point - A local problem which has not been fully solved before is explained in detail with supporting
research.

9
4. The Users

4.1 Who are the users and how are they affected by the problem?

Institutions often do not have a suitable

model/equipment to identify if the staff/students are
wearing masks properly or not.
This problem leads to recurring infections in the
campus and hence causes loss of health, money and
as well as time.

4.2 What have you actually observed about the users and how the problem
affects them?

Institutions often do not have a suitable model/equipment to identify if the

staff/students are wearing masks properly or not. This problem leads to
recurring infections in the campus and hence causes loss of health, money
and as well as time.

4.3 Record your interview questions here as well as responses from

users.

Q1. Do you have any Equipment for detecting infected people?

A. We use thermal sensors, but they are not so fit.
Q2. Do you need to identify infected people?
A. Yes, it will help a lot.
Q3. Do you want a safer campus?
A. yes, who doesn't want a healthy environment.
Q4. What are your views on a Mask detection system?
A. Mask detection model is a good idea for detection of people wearing
masks. It will definitely have some impact in decrease if spread of infections.

10
4.4 Empathy Map

Map what the users' say, think, do and feel about the problem in this table.

4.5 What are the usual steps that users currently take related to the problem
and where are the difficulties?

1.People physically make a crowd at random places in

campus.
2. Not following the safety measures.
3. People use different alternatives of wearing masks.
4. Not trying to stay at home if not well.
11
4.6 Write your team's problem statement in the format below.

Schools and institutions [a specific user or group of users]

are experiencing issues with identifying people who don't wear masks properly[problem] to
because of discomfort of wearing masks and carelessness. [cause]

5.2 Priority Grid

Evaluate your five AI ideas based on value to users and ease of creation and implementation.

14
5.3 Based on the priority grid, which AI solution is the best fit for your users and for your
team to create and implement?

Briefly summarize the idea for your solution in a few sentences and be sure to identify the tool
that you will use.

We have decided upon a Ai based facial recognition system.

The advantages of converting the current system to this will be:
▪ Will restrict people without authority from entering
▪ Available 24/7
▪ Saves Money
▪ One time investment
▪ Improve Customer Satisfaction
▪ Improve the efficiency of the process
▪ Less staff

6. Design
6.1 What are the steps that users will now do using your AI solution to address
the problem?

1. The school institutions will be able to have vigilance on the students and staffs.

2. The schools must install this system at all entry and exit points of the institutions.

3. They can extend the area of vigilance by combining this system with the CCTV
camera installed inside the classrooms, staff rooms, canteen etc.
