Body Mass Index
Directions: According to the Center for Disease Control, “Body Mass Index (BMI) is a
number calculated from a person's weight and height. BMI provides a reliable indicator
of body fatness for most people and is used to screen for weight categories that may
lead to health problems.” Please note that Body Mass Index is not an absolute
measurement of body fatness.
For this assignment you will be calculating and analyzing your body mass index (BMI).
Part A: Basic Information
In order to perform the necessary calculations for this assignment, you must first
accurately measure your height & weight.

Calculate your and analyze your BMI.
1. Use the following formula to calculate your BMI. Show your work! (5 pts)

percentile based on your age and the number you calculated above. What is

4. Use the Teen BMI calculator provided by the Center for Disease Control at the
following site: https://www.cdc.gov/healthyweight/bmi/calculator.html. Calculate
your BMI using the online calculator and read the information provided for your
percentile. What BMI and percentage was calculated for you when you entered
your information? Was it similar to your calculations? (3 pts)

5. If you are currently at a healthy BMI percentile, what steps can you take to
maintain that percentile? If your Body Mass Index indicates that you are below
