F3 LABORATORY ACTIVITIES

NAME: DATE:

TITLE: Transport system

AIM: TO DETERMINE THE EFFECT OF EXERCISE ON PULSE RATE.

APPARATUS AND MATERIALS:

stop watch

METHOD:
1. Resting was carried out for one minute
2. The resting pulse was taken for one minute
3. Step 2 was repeated two more times
4. 15 squats were completed, with teacher guidance
5. The pulse was measured immediately after and recorded
6. Steps 4 and 5 were repeated two more times
7. All results were tabulated
8. The pulse rate (pulse per minute) was calculated for all activities
9. The average pulse rate for each activity was calculated
10. The results were displayed as a histogram on a graph page

RESULTS:
TABLE SHOWING PULSE RATE AFTER EACH ACTIVITY

ACTIVITY PULSE RATE (pulse per min)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Which side of the heart pumps blood out to the wrist, where the pulse is felt? [1]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Analysis of the results

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. Describe the pulse rate during exercise. [1]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5. Explain why the pulse rate is different during exercise. You answer should make reference to the cardiac
cycle. [3]
