Figure 1 Rusty abandoned food stall with peeling red paint sits in a dark alley. (https://www.freepik.com)
The sight of this vibrant yet worn food stall transports me to the bustling streets of my
childhood, where my grandparents owned a similar setup in a local market. Theirs was not the
bright orange but the dull green; like the walls, the store was filled with similar products
arranged in clean, tight little lines. I remember spending my weekends with them, inhaling the
smell of spices and fried takeaway snacks, ready to help pack the orders. Its sense of age
disarray at a delicate level resonates strongly with one particular memory. I was approximately
eight years of age, racing to go home to meet my grandparents after school. After every visit
took my breath away, my grandmother pulled out a small bag of my favorite fried dumplings
and said, "Here, to make you happy." This was simple human affection in the middle of the time,
and it is so monotonous in our daily existence.

The panoramic picture shows that the orange panels are now pale, and the stall
represents the depicted kind of endurance. Despite the look of the booths, the stalls are lively
centers and gatherings of people with many stories behind them. My family needed our stall
beyond money-making; they needed it to affect our society. As I am writing this, I realize that
even now, it makes my heart a little sad whenever I see a stall like this, yet at the same time, I
miss those days. All those things people tend to believe are not worth any attention may turn
into something valuable, reflecting a person's love, strength, and memories.
