Beachy Script

The script follows Rebecca, an 18-year-old girl working at Ava's Acai Shop, who has an unexpected encounter with Milo, a skateboarder, leading to a humorous crash. EXT. HERMOSA BEACH. EVENING.

Wide shot over the Hermosa Beach ocean and beach-goers while
“Satellite” by Harry Styles Plays. A calm vibe. Pan over
Laguna Beach City walk. A warm Saturday evening, around 95
degrees. This goes on for about 20 seconds and the music
lowers as soon as we see Ava’s Acai Shop.

EXT. HERMOSA BEACH. AVA’S ACAI SHOP. EVENING.

Pan to the door of Ava’s acai shop. Reveal Rebecca, an 18-

year-old girl who has worked at this shop for almost a year.
She has long brown hair to match her big brown eyes and skin.

Rebecca holds a large tray with multiple cups of acai

drizzled in honey, coconut, almonds, and whatever else you
can imagine. She slowly makes her way out of the door and
through tables while trying to let as many people pass in the
walkway in front of her. As soon as she tries to walk across
the walkway and hand a strawberry acai to the couple in front
of her, a tall, maybe 20-something-year-old guy on a
skateboard crashes into her.

REBECCA
Are you serious? What is wrong with
you?

Shaky zoom in on the guy.

MILO
Uh- sorry. I didn’t-

Reveal Milo, taken back as he really didn’t see her. He is

very tall, but she doesn’t see that yet. Milo steps back,
hesitating, deciding whether or not to touch her and help her
get up. During the heat of the crash, she only catches a
glimpse of his nameplate that says “Milo,” a very rare name
for a guy in Laguna Beach. Rebecca gets up and before she can
see his full face, he’s already crossing the street. Annoyed
but not really, she stays there on the floor for a minute,
asking herself what just happened. She walks back into the
shop to wash up.

EXT. HERMOSA BEACH. 8:00 P.M.

Pan over the gorgeous city in a drone style. Pan over

glistening dark beach while “Boyfriend, Girlfriend” by
Carwash plays. The song continues into the next scene, a
Monday early in the morning.
2.

INT. HERMOSA BEACH. REBECCA’S ROOM. MORNING.

Wide shot of Rebecca getting up and dressed while “Boyfriend,

Girlfriend” by Carwash is still playing, now on an Alexa
speaker. Zoom in on her face as she applies only blush and
mascara. Her natural, shiny curls are the star of the show
today. She quickly grabs her keys and an on-the-go oats cup
and rushes out of her room.

EXT. REBECCA’S HOUSE. DRIVEWAY. MORNING

The camera follows as Rebecca opens the car door and quickly
gets in. When seated, she takes a glance of her phone for the
time.

REBECCA
No way that’s the time!

Wide camera shot of Rebecca pulling out of the driveway and

onto the street. Fast cut to the next scene with no music.

INT. MORNING. HERMOSA YOUTH REHABILITATION CENTER. ROOM 16.

Rebecca is sitting cross-legged on a desk, leaning back, and

fidgeting with a led pencil. She has the song “China” by
Ozuna and Daddy Yankee playing in her AirPods. She has had
this song stuck in her head, she continues bobbing her head
and quietly singing along while kids start to file in the
room. She can only hope this volunteering gig her counselor
suggested was worth it. It will be on every one of Rebecca’s
college applications after all.

MRS. LEVINSON
Hello everyone, my name is Mrs.
Levinson. Welcome. Now I know this
may be the last place you want to
be but, don’t worry, this won’t
just be me talking. I promise you
guys will grow together after these
two weeks and learn more about
yourselves. We will all introduce
ourselves in a minute but first
I’ll have Rebecca take roll. She’s
actually volunteering this summer
and will be a senior in just four
weeks. Ok go ahead, sweetheart.

REBECCA
(Smiling)
Ok, so Karla?
3.

KARLA
Here.

REBECCA
Logan?

LOGAN
Yeah, here.

REBECCA
Sofia?

Sofia has headphones in and can’t hear her name being called.

REBECCA (CONT’D)
Sofia! Sof-
SOFIA
What- Yeah yeah, here. My bad.

REBECCA
Ha, no your good.

Rebecca looks at the next name on the list, and she

hesitates. But there’s no way it’s the same person. Right?

REBECCA (CONT’D)
Uh, Milo?

MILO
Here.

She looks up to see the same guy who crashed into her on
Saturday with the skateboard. Reveal Milo’s full face,
probably one of the finest guys Rebecca has ever seen. Now,
with him sitting in the second row of classroom, she can see
him clearly. Tanned skin, curly black hair, and the same
nameplate she saw a flash of when they collided. Not too
mention good style on top of that. They make eye contact for
about four seconds and she quickly looks back at the list.
Zoom in on Milo’s face, laughing quietly to himself . He
recognizes her too.

JUMP CUT TO:

INT. AFTERNOON. HERMOSA YOUTH REHABILITATION CENTER. ROOM 16.

Zoom in on Mrs. Levinson.

4.

MRS. LEVINSON
Alright! I’m so glad we took the
time to get to know each other, I
can already see these next two
weeks will go by super quickly.
Remember, if you have specific
accommodations or need to talk to
me about anything I have my email
listed on that paper. OK, have fun
you guys, and make good life
choices. See you all tomorrow.

Wide shot of all the older teens plus Rebecca getting up to

leave the room. Rebecca thanks Mrs. Levinson and is the last
teen to leave the room. As she walks down the hall, Milo
comes out of the bathroom to her left and they end up walking
next to each other. Awkward silence.

MILO
(Casually)
You still smell like blueberries.

REBECCA
(Playing dumb)
What? That was you on Saturday? I
thought you might’ve looked
familiar.

MILO
Yeah, I guess I just have one of
those faces.

Milo gives her a warm, attractive smile. You can tell Rebecca
is getting flustered.

Beat.

MILO (CONT’D)
Sorry ‘bout that, by the way. I
seriously didn’t see you. The sun
like fucked up my eyes.
REBECCA
No I was dying for someone to take
me out of that shift. Saturdays are
the worst, that’s when all the
complaining tourists come out.

Zoom in on Milo glancing at his phone, his attention span cut

short.

REBECCA (CONT’D)
So what are you doing here anyway?
5.

MILO
Got expelled from a private school,
my parents said I could use this
stupid program to meet new people
and shape up I guess. Honestly,
it’s fine I couldn’t care less
about it.

REBECCA
Don't worry, today was only boring
cause it’s the first day, Mrs.
Levinson has been doing this like
forever.

MILO

Yeah, whatever. This isn't how I

want my last few weeks of summer to
go.

REBECCA
Yeah, I get that.

They get to the exit.

MILO
Guess I’ll see you tommoro- oh wait
what’s your name?

REBECCA
Oh I’m Rebecca.

MILO
Rebecca. Alright, see ya.

Milo leaves towards his car, a gray Volkswagen.
