Q. 1/ What is meant by a democratic form of government?


Ans. India has a democratic government, which means it is a government of the people, for the people
and by the people. In a democracy, people have the right to vote and choose their representatives, who
govern the country. All citizens of India, who are above the age of 18, have a right to vote and elect the
members of the Lok Sabha. It is a very valuable and precious right which should be exercised for smooth
functioning of the country.

Q.2/ What do you mean by “President of our India”?


Ans. The President is the head of the country and the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, that is,
the army, the navy and the air force. The official residence of the President is the Rashtrapati Bhavan, in
New Delhi. He/ She is elected by the members of the Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha and legislative Assembly
for a period of five years.

Q.3/ Briefly explain the composition of Rajya Sabha.


Ans. There can be a maximum of 250 members in Rajya Sabha, out of which 238 are representatives of
the states and union territories and 12 are nominated by the President of India. These 12 members are
chosen from the field of art, cinema, literature, poetry, sports, etc. In 2021, there were 245 members
out of this 233 were representatives of state and union territories.
Q.4/ Describe the function of state government.
Ans. Every state in India is governed by a state government. The members of the Legislative Assembly
are elected by citizens of India, who are above 18 years of age. After the assembly elections, the
Governor, who is the head of the state, invites the leader of the majority party to form the government
for a period of five years. Then, the leader of the majority party becomes the Chief Minister of the state.

Q.6/ Describe the composition of the Central Government.


Ans. The Central Government of India is composed of the President of India, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
The Lok Sabha has 552 members while the Rajya Sabha has 250 members.

Q.7) Describe the responsibilities of the Central Government.


Ans. The Central government is responsible for making laws for the whole country and ensuring their
implementation . The security and defence of the nation, diplomatic relations with neighboring
countries, etc,. and work for the welfare of the country and looks after the working of state government.

Q.8) How does the government function at the village level?


Ans. The villages are governed by the Zilla Parishad and Gram Panchayat. These organizations solve day-
to-day problems in the districts and villages by providing electricity, water, sanitation, education and
maintenance of roads. The cities and towns are managed by the Municipal Corporations and Municipal
Councils.

Q.9) What is the difference between a union territory and a state?


Ans. States have their own governments while union territories are ruled by central government.

Q.10) What would happen if there was no judiciary?


Ans. If there had been no judiciary then the rights of people might not have been considered. People
would have faced partiality, humiliation , discrimination , corruption and violence everywhere.

Q11) What is the constitution of India and write 3-4 rights which are written in constitution book.
Ans. The constitution of India is a book of laws, based on which , our country is governed. It clearly
states the role of the central and state government.
Some of the rights are –
 Right to freedom of Speech
 Right to Equality
 Right against Exploitation
 Right to vote
