Module 2 Discussion: Sharing Documentation about Dispositions

As an early childhood educator dealing with toddlers, I usually create a space where children
can explore and express themselves freely. As one of our activities, I use materials that they
can utilize to show their resourcefulness and creativity. A week ago, I set up a corner of the
room, where I placed a table with different coloring materials, markers and lego blocks and toys
where the toddlers can use for their activity. As Makovich et al. (2014), reiterated, "Children
engage in intentionally planned, open, responsive, and engaging environments where play and
exploration are encouraged." I noticed that Liam and James started using the lego blocks to
build their structures. They built houses and cars. I asked Liam and James about their creation.
Liam said it was his dream house. “Someday, I want to build this house for my mommy”, Liam
explained. James on the other hand said the car he made was something he saw on the streets
that is why he made it. Sam and Annie used the art materials to draw. Both of them have drawn
the sun and clouds with smiley faces. They told me they are happy when it is sunny outside.
After they were done, I asked the toddlers to show the others what they did. They eagerly
showed their classmate their master pieces.

Liam and James have playing and playful disposition. They showed their creativity and
resourcefulness through playing with lego blocks. Sam and Annie together with Liam and
James are also have participating as their disposition to learn. When I asked to them show what
they did to the class, they shared to their classmates what they have done. As their teacher I
encourage them to express themselves and collaborate with their peers. Another role I am
proud of is being able to design places and activities that encourage children's curiosity to try
new things and push their boundaries as one of my passions as an educator. Everybody needs
to be able to play with the things that come out of the world of children, according to Malaguzzi
(1994). Everybody must be curious, and we must be open to trying new things depending on the
suggestions the kids make to us along the way."
