The objective of our activity programs is to develop the skills, abilities and competencies that children need to develop reading
comprehension and thus encourage the enjoyment of reading. They propose educational activities in accordance with the
demands of our national reality and international standards.
It also includes material so that the teacher can further analyze the work, understand its literary value, use technology in the
classroom (ICT), address different learning styles and make curricular connections, thanks to the transversality that literature
offers.
q Take advantage of reading opportunities to develop the social and emotional aspects of students in accordance with the OFT
proposed by the Ministry of Education.
q Propose different reading situations that encourage the approach and enjoyment of different types of texts through motivating
activities.

B LITERARY ASPECTS
Synthesis
Prudencia is a very shy pig who dreams of being a ballet dancer. When she attends her first dance class she feels very anxious.
While there, she realizes that she has a hard time doing the steps compared to her fellow dancers. Despite this, he tries again
and again, but it all ends in laughter and disappointment when he falls clumsily to the ground and his teacher yells at him to stop
disturbing the class. She has no desire left, sadness invades her, but something special happens on the way back home. In a
park, geese and ducks are playing soccer and suddenly they casually throw the ball at Prudencia's feet. They shout loudly for
her to kick it and, to everyone's surprise, the little pig scores a fantastic goal. Since that day, upon discovering his sporting
abilities, he feels truly happy.
Analysis
A story with a simple plot that allows for fluid reading for boys and girls. The illustrations form an indissoluble bond with the text,
playing a fundamental role in representing Prudencia's feelings and understanding the meaning of the story. Each image is an
invitation that brings the reader closer to a warm and poetic world that is transmitted page by page.
In this story, two types of shouting are also evident: one that discourages and another that encourages. The scream of the ballet
teacher that shows the rigidity of her acting versus the scream of the geese and ducks that motivate her to hit the ball hard,
executing a goal that was widely cheered.

► GENERAL GUIDELINES
The guidelines proposed in each activity provide the working conditions and strategies that will allow the achievement
of the expected learning outcomes. Throughout the process, strengthen, support and supervise the development of
each of these activities, so that learning becomes a successful experience. PISA:
Before reading
Purpose of the activity: To introduce children to the theme of the story they are going to read through music.
► Methodological guidelines
Select a piece of classical music, such as Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, The Blue Danube, etc. Ask your
students to close their eyes, relax their bodies and listen carefully to the selected melody.
Ask: Do you remember anything about this music? What kind of music is it? Do you like this music? Why? What
profession or activity is this kind of music related to?
Now invite them to listen to the song from the 2010 South Africa World Cup or the 1962 World Cup song. (You can
sing and dance to the rhythm of these contagious songs.)
Then you can ask: did you like the song? Why? What activity is related to the song you just heard? Do you play any
sport? Which one? Why do you like to play that sport?
Introduce the book they are going to read, read the title, show the cover and ask:
❚ What does the word “Prudence” mean?
❚ What do you see on the cover of the book?
❚ What will this story be about?
❚ Does the music you listen to have any relation to the book cover? Why?

Purpose of the activity: Predict through the elements of the cover about
what the book Prudence will be about.
► Methodological guidelines
Discuss with your students what the job of a detective is and then tell them that they will play a game to uncover a
mysterious case.
Present the photocopiable “Detectives” sheet and invite them to imagine that they are private investigators.
After they have finished their work, allow them to freely share their answers with the class. You can ask for some
cards to put on the bulletin board, and when you finish reading the book, check how close or how far you were in your
predictions.
Purpose of the activity: To develop oral expression through the characters of a story.
► Methodological guidelines
In this activity, your students will make puppets with two characters from the story. With them they will work on oral
expression.
In the photocopiable material you will find four figures of the characters, from which your students will choose two. To
make the puppets, first glue this page onto a piece of cardboard and then cut it out. A popsicle stick glued to the back
will do the trick.
The children will introduce the characters by pointing out some characteristics that they can infer from the image.
You can work on dialogues orally between different characters.
Motivate them by asking: which of them is the protagonist? What are these characters like? What adventures will they
experience? In what places will this story take place? etc.
In this type of activity, the most important thing is that the children indicate the clues that led them to answer in a
certain way.

During reading
Purpose of the activity: To discuss the different skills that must be had to carry out
favorite hobbies.
► Methodological guidelines
Invite your students to identify their favorite activities, to tell if they play any sport or do any activity that they really like.
Use questions like: What is your favorite sport? Why? Are you interested in any particular activity: music, painting,
reading, crafts, etc.? Would you like to spend time on it? What are you good at? What do you find difficult?
Form groups of four or five members to talk about your tastes and preferences. Monitor activity from group to group.
Explain the concept of skill to them so that they don't see their dreams of doing an activity they like as impossible.
The concept of ability comes from the Latin term habilitas and refers to the capacity and disposition for something.
According to the dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE), skill is each of the things that a person executes
with grace and dexterity, and the plot arranged with ingenuity, dissimulation and skill.
Skill can be an innate or developed aptitude. Practice, training and experience allow a subject to improve his skills (“I
am studying piano to increase my musical skills”).
http://definicion.de/habilita/
It is very important for children to know that skills can be developed with practice, even more so when they are young.
Finish by reflecting with them on the effort we must put into everything to achieve success. Depending on the moment
of reading you are going to, connect the comment with Prudence.

Purpose of the activity: Make oral and written descriptions based on images in the
book.
► Methodological guidelines
Tell your students that they will write a description, which consists of explaining in detail and in an orderly manner
what people, places or objects are like. To do this, point out that they will work with an illustration of the story they are
reading. Choose the one that seems relevant to that objective.
Explain that they should look very carefully and select what they want to describe.
Give some examples of what elements can be used to make a description:
Eg: There is a yellow, oval lamp in the room.
Tell them that they can use characteristics of objects, such as big, small, distinguish their color, point out where they
are using up-down, left-right, etc.
Gather them into small groups to share their descriptions orally.
Model some examples for your students during the activity.
Finally, ask them to write down some of the descriptions in their notebooks.

Purpose of the activity: Sequence the story you read with the support of the PISA:
illustrations.
► Methodological guidelines
Give your children the photocopiable sheet. There you will find various illustrations that they will order according to
how they happened in the story.
To complete the task, first ask them to cut them out and place them on a surface. Then ask them to put them in order
and to check the sequence, tell the story in the order they were given. Once they are sure that the sequence is
correct, they should stick them on a pad of paper. Model the process each time you perform a similar activity.
To finish the activity, invite them to create a different title for the story they read.
Prudence SANTILLANA OR

Veronica Prieto
Purpose of the activity: To provide basic strategies that allow for the creation of a
graphic organizer of the story.
• Methodological guidelines
Explain to your students that they will be working with a graphic organizer. To do this, indicate that this resource is a
visual representation that allows you to retrieve important information and summarize some content.
On the worksheet, in the center is the title of the book, ask them to draw the main character and write two
characteristics. In the remaining four boxes, you should write down the secondary characters at the top and, on the
right side, the environment in which they act. In the boxes below, the problem that the protagonist faces and on the
right side the solution with which the story ends.
Finally, share the activity.
today's society.
• Methodological guidelines
Discuss with your students about reading the book: What do you think about a girl playing soccer? And a boy dancing
ballet? Collect feedback and moderate the conversation. Ask them to mention activities that men do and others that
women do. Lead the reflection towards gender equality, also considering that each one has their own characteristics
and contributions to make in different activities.
