Music Search Localized Query Validation Task for

en-IN (Tasks 3) | Guidelines

A music search query is a string of text entered by a user to find specific music content within a music streaming platform. Your
goal is to ensure that the query provided to you is correctly classified into the query type indicated in the task.

Task 3: Query Type Verification

You will be provided with (1) a localized music search query for India, (2) a query type that has been assigned to this query, (3)
a definition of that query type, and (4) non-localized examples of that query. A localized query for India is one that includes
Indian/South Asian entities and uses India-specific patterns of English.

You will be shown a maximum of two questions:

QUESTION 1: Does the query have information in it that matches the assigned query type?

You may also be asked a second question, it may appear after answering the first:

QUESTION 2: Does the query have additional information that matches another query type not assigned

Task

To do this task well, you should:

1. Familiarize yourself with the guidelines, including the definitions of the assigned query type shown below
2. Carefully read the query and process the information contained in it.
a. For example, what are the music entities reference in the query? What is the search intent of the query?
3. Identify whether there is information in the query matches the assigned query type.
4. If you are asked Question 2, is there additional information in the query that matches another query type not assigned?
a. Remember that albums, artists, and songs are NOT additional information in the query.

Information in a Query

Depending on user’s intent, the query embodies all sorts of information. Here is a list:

● music genre
● music decades & years
● artist
● lyrics
● covers
● album names
● awards
● music vibes, e.g., moods, activities accompanied, for a specific time
● popularity
● logical operations such as negation
● external but not catalog information associated with a music piece
● mutual dependency between music features

Question 2 Examples
One important thing to note is that the presence of an artist, album, or song does NOT count as additional information for this
task. Consider the following examples:

● Query Type: Decades & Years, Query: 2000s music, Question 1: Yes, Question 2: No
● Query Type: Decades & Years, Query: 2000s music by ar rahman, Question 1: Yes, Question 2: No
○ The addition of an artist, A.R. Rahman, to the query does not change the answer to Question 2
● Query Type: Covers, Query: covers of Channa Mereya, Question 1: Yes, Question 2: No
● Query Type: Covers, Query: hit covers of Channa Mereya, Question 1: Yes, Question 2: Yes
○ The inclusion of hits indicates Popular.
● Query Type: Content Type, Query: songs for Christmas, Question 1: Yes, Question 2: No
● Query Type: Content Type, Query: Christian songs for Christmas, Question 1: Yes, Question 2: Yes
○ Christian acts as a genre indicator (a query asking just for Christmas music might want to return secular music as
well)
