4. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Once the dynamic Gb over IP interface is in use and modifications to the configuration are
being done, it must be ensured that a valid SGSN IP address is used as preconfigured SGSN
IP endpoint. Otherwise the dynamic configuration attempt fails after the next restart and the Gb
interface will not recover.

5. DETAILED DESCRIPTION

It is possible to remove the PAPU that has been set to be a Pre-conf IP End point from a
PAPU group without any impact to the current traffic handling capability. Therefore, when
modifications to the configuration are being done, it must be ensured that a valid SGSN IP
address is used as preconfigured SGSN IP endpoint in the BSC. If an invalid SGSN IP
address is used, the dynamic configuration attempt fails after the next restart of the Gb
interface (e.g. caused by the unit switchover) and the Gb interface will not recover resulting
GPRS outage under the affected NSEI.

6. SOLUTION / INSTRUCTIONS

Here’s an example of the situation where a valid SGSN IP endpoint information is configured
to the BSC. In the example PAPU-0 is used as the preconfigured endpoint for NSEI-111 and
PAPU-0 belongs into PAPU group 1 (PGI=1). If the PAPU-0 is removed from the PAPU group
1, the BSCs configuration must be changed also to correspond with the new configuration.
