CAD File import
• CAD Import
– SimLab supports direct CAD import for ProE and Parasolid geometry
• No manual geometry required
• No CAD geometry translation error
– For Other CAD systems, a conversion to Parasolid before meshing is
recommended
– When a CAD assembly is imported the parts in the assembly are
displayed in the tree view.

• Go to File / Import to import CAD models
• CAD files
– Catia
• part.wrl
– I-Deas
• part.idi
• Export to part.xpk
• Export to part.x_t (Parasolid format)
– Parasolid
• Part.x_t
• Part.xmt_txt
• Part.x_b
• Parasolid version supported is 16
– ProE
• Part.prt
• Part.asm
• ProE version supported is Wildfire 2

• Has extension .stl
• Has the geometry as a collection of
disconnected tri-elements

• Has the geometry as groupings of tri-
