WHAT IS OPERATING
SYSTEMS?
An operating system is a system software
thats acts as in interface between the user
and the computer hardware and controls
the execution of all kinds of program

A BATCH OPERATING SYSTEM
> Does not interact with the computer
directly.
>Each user prepares his job on an off-line device like punch
cards.
> Submits it to the computer operator:
>Operator takes similar jobs with same requirement and group them into batches
>CPU process one batch at time.
>CPU is often idle.
>Example: Payroll System, Bank Systems
B TIME- SHARING OPERATING SYSTEM
>Each task is given some time to execute.
(QUANTUM)
>Each user gets time of CPU as they use single system.
>It is known as Multitasking Systems.
>Each tasks gets an equal opportunity.
>CPU idle time can be reduced.
>Example: Multics, Unix
C DISTRIBUTED OPERATING SYSTEM
>It uses multiple central processors to serve multiple
real- time applications and multiple users.
>Data processing jobs are distributed among the
processors accordingly.
>Processors communicate with one another through
various communication lines.
>Examples: Locus
D NETWORK OPERATING SYSTEM
>NOS runs on a server
>Server: Capable to manage data, users, groups,
security, applications, and other networking functions.
>Network operating system: Shared file and printer access among
multiple computer in a network (LAN or private network)
>Examples: Microsoft Windows Server
2003, Microsoft Server 2008, UNIX, Linux,
Mac OS X, Novell NetWare
D REAL TIME OPERATING SYSTEM (RTOS)
>RTOS: Time interval required to process and response time to inputs is
small.
>Response time: The time taken by system to respond to
an input and display of required updated information.
>Hard Real- Time Systems: Guarantee that critical tasks complete on
time and response time is fixed.
>Soft Real- Time Systems: Time requirement is not very crucial.
>The system give the output within the deadline but there can be
a small tolerance.

WINDOWS AND LINUX OS
DEFINITION
Linux and Windows are two different operating systems that have some unique and
different features. While choosing an operating system it’s good to know about their
strengths and weaknesses. However, the choice mainly varies depending on the usage
and preferences of users.
WHAT IS LINUX?
Linux-is a Unix-like operating system that is free to use. It is an open-source
operating system in which the source code is modifiable which makes it
popular.
WHAT IS WINDOW?
Windows is a proprietary operating system that is sold and developed by
Microsoft. It is the most popular operating system that is used worldwide,
especially on PCs and laptops.
