At the end of the lesson, the learner should be able to:
a. Understand the history and the skills of basketball;
b. Identify the facilities and equipment used in basketball game,
c. Enumerate the different skills in playing basketball
d. Apply the skills according to set standards and,
e. Show interest through participation.

Before we start our lesson, let me ask you a

What comes into your mind if you are about to
enter a gymnasium?
To do some activities, Sir.

To exercise our body, Sir.
I will play video presentation and after that I will
ask you what it’s all about.

The players are doing a drill of different
skills in basketball, Sir.
B. LESSON PRESENTATION
In relation to that, Our topic for today is all about
the sport basketball.
Who among of you knows how to play
basketball?
(The students raised their hand.)
C. LESSON PROPER
This time, I will discuss to you A brief history,
skills the facilities and equipment used in playing
basketball.
What you know about the game Basketball? Jhay.
Basketball is a team sport composed of
five players each team, Sir.
What else? Aldrin.
Basketball is considered as one of the
most popular sports in the world, Sir.
How about the objective of the game?
To score more points than the opponent,
Sir.
Take note Class! Because in this game, you will
be given a limited time for you to play. Not just
like in other team sport, for they have to reach a
certain point to win. Like for example in
volleyball.
Who is the man behind of this successful sport?
The man of this sport is none other than
Dr. James Naismith, Sir.
On what year did Dr. James Naismith created the
game?
He created on December 1891, Sir.
Where did Dr. Naismith created the game?
He created the game in YMCA,
Springfield Massachusetts USA Sir.
What is the main purpose of Dr. Naismith in
creating this kind of sport?
He created this game for recreational
activities, Sir.
What else?
To keep the body of his students into
proper level of fitness, Sir.
Basketball was created by dr. James Naismith on
December 1891 in YMCA Springfield,
Massachusetts USA. He organized this vigorous
recreation suitable for indoor winter play to keep
his students into proper level of fitness.
Let’s go further in our discussion. Let us talk
about the facilities and equipment of the game.
Who among of you can enumerate the facilities
and equipment of Basketball? James. The facilities and equipment that used in
playing basketball are court, the ball and
the basket or goal Sir.
First let’s talk about the playing court.
Anyone who can tell and describe a court?
A basketball court is a playing surface,
consisting a rectangular floor with a
basket at each end, Sir.
It is a playing surface consisting a rectangular

What is the standard measure of a basketball
court?
The standard measure of a basketball
court has a maximum of 94 feet long
and 50 feet wide, Sir.
Very good! It has a standard measure of 94ft. long
and 50 meters wide.
How about the indicated lines?
All lines are drawn 5 cm. in width and it
should be completely visible, Sir.
Why should the lines in the court totally visible?
To see the ball if it is IN or OUT of
bounce, Sir.
What else?
To guide the players, Sir.

What is the equipment used in playing basketball?
The equipment used in playing that
game is a ball, Sir.
Who can give the definition of a ball? Anyone?
A ball is an inflated sphere used in
playing, Sir.
Do you have any idea for the first ball used in
playing this sport? Anyone?
A soccer ball, Sir.
How about the color of the original basketball?
Brown, Sir.
The first ball used in playing this sport is a soccer
ball, brown is the first color of the ball before they
changed it into orange for the purpose of seeing it
clearly inside the playing court.
Anyone who can give the circumference of a
basket-ball?
The circumference of the ball is 29 ½ to
30 inches, Sir.

Let’s talk about the basket or in other term the
goal.
What is the purpose of the basket?
It is used to shoot or put the ball inside
to score points, Sir.
What kind of basket that is used in playing
basketball before?
A peach basket, Sir.
The first basket to use in playing basketball is a
peach basket or a fruit basket hat. The peached
basket was used until 1906.
This time we will talk about the basic skills
needed in playing basketball. Okay class?
Yes, Sir.
Who can enumerate the basic skills in basketball?
The basic skills in basketball are
shooting, passing and dribbling, Sir.
What is shooting skill? Jay.
Shooting is done when you throw or put
the ball into the basket, Sir.
This type of skill in basketball allows you to shot
the ball into the basket to score points.
How about the passing skill? Jhon.
Passing is a skill by throwing or passing
the ball to an intended player, Sir.
With this type of skill it allows you to pass the
ball into your teammate. Like for an example, if
your teammate is near to the basket without any
defender you can pass the ball to score points.
And or if you are guarded by two or more
defenders you are allowed to pass the ball to your
teammates.
And what about the dribbling skill? AJ.
Dribbling means by moving the ball
downward to the floor, Sir.
This type of skill, the players are going to dribble
the ball downward to the floor. For example if you
have the ball in your hands to move forward you
have to dribble the ball. Not just like before, you
are allowed to run with the ball.
This time, I will demonstrate to you the different
skills of basketball. After that you will do the
same. Alright Class?

D. ASSESSMENT
This time, I will divide you into two groups.
Each group will execute the basic skills in
basketball.
Form a circle and make a space for everyone.
After that, execute the basic skills that I’m going
to tell.
The goal is to maintain your teammate still
complete.
If the player did not execute the skill that I’m
going tell he/she will be automatic out to the
game. Is that clear Class?
The name of this game is Pass, Dribble, Shot.
Cooperation is a must!
Lastly, I have here a mix puzzled images, all you
have to do is to re-arrange the scrambled images.
You will be given two minutes to do the task.
The first group who fixed the right puzzle of
images will consider as the winner.
