SMART HOME AUTOMATION SYSTEM
1. Introduction
In today’s world, home automation has become a necessity due to its advantages in terms of
security, convenience, and energy efficiency. This project presents a Smart Home Automation
System using an Arduino Uno microcontroller, various sensors, and actuators to automate and
monitor home appliances.

3. Components Used
- Arduino Uno: The central microcontroller that processes inputs and controls the devices.
- Ultrasonic Sensor (HC-SR04): Measures distance to detect objects or intruders.
- PIR Sensor: Detects human motion for security purposes.
- L293D Motor Driver: Controls the motor for automated operations.
- Servo Motor: Used for door automation.
- Temperature Sensor (TMP36): Monitors the ambient temperature.
- DC Motor: Used for appliance automation.
- Resistors & LEDs: Used for indication and circuit stabilization.
- Breadboard & Connecting Wires: For prototyping and connections.
4. Working Principle
The system is designed to automate and monitor various home functions. The Arduino Uno is
programmed to take inputs from the sensors and activate the corresponding actuators.
- The PIR sensor detects motion and can trigger an alarm or turn on lights.
- The Ultrasonic sensor detects objects and can be used for security purposes.
- The Temperature sensor monitors the room temperature and can trigger a fan or air conditioning
system.
- The Servo motor is used for door automation.
- The L293D motor driver controls the DC motor for automating appliances like curtains or fans.
5. Circuit Design
The components are connected as follows:
- The Arduino Uno acts as the controller, taking sensor inputs and controlling the actuators.
- The PIR sensor is connected to the digital input of the Arduino.
- The Ultrasonic sensor is connected to trigger and echo pins to measure distance.
- The Temperature sensor is connected to the analog input of Arduino.
- The L293D motor driver is used to drive the DC motor.
- The Servo motor is controlled using a PWM pin of the Arduino.
- Power is supplied through the Arduino board, and necessary resistors are used for circuit stability.
