1.0 PURPOSE
The purpose of generating this method statement is to define the procedure step by step to implement the
correct practices for Installation of Earthing, bonding system through the guidelines contained herein to
ensure that the job execution complies with the requirements where applicable inside the Project Premises.
2.0 SCOPE OF WORK
This method statement covers all processes related to Installation of Earthing, bonding system within
project control documents:
This procedure is to be read in conjunction with the relevant ITP, outlining the responsibility and the
quality verification to be performed by various parties.

4.0 RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Safety Officer
4.1 Project Manager
- Project Manager is the overall responsible for the project in terms of work execution, safety, planning &
quality. The Project Manager will maintain the planning progress and coordination of works with the main
contractor.
- The work progress shall be carried out as per planned program and all the equipment’s required to
execute the works shall be available and in good condition as per project planned.
- Specific attention is paid to all safety measures and quality control in coordination with Safety Engineer
and QA/QC Engineer and in line with PSP and PQP.
4.2 Construction Manager
- Construction Manager is responsible to supervise and control the work on site.
- Coordinating with QA/QC Engineer and site Team and foremen for all activities on site.
- Control and sign all WIR’s before issuing to Consultant / Client approval.
4.3 Site Engineer
- The method statement to the system shall be implemented according to the Consultant project
specifications and approved shop drawings.
- Provision of all necessary information and distribution of responsibilities to his Construction team.
- The work progress shall be monitored in accordance with the planned work program and he will
provide reports to his superiors.
- The constant coordination with the Safety Engineer to ensure that the works are carried out in safe
working atmosphere.
- The constant coordination with the QA/QC Engineer for any works to be carried out and initiate for the
Inspection for the finished works.
- He will ensure the implementation of any request that might be raised by the Consultant.
- Efficient daily progress shall be obtained for all the equipment and manpower.
- He will engage in the work and check the same against the daily report received from the Foremen.
- The passage of all the revised information to the Foremen and ensure that it’s being carried out
properly.
4.4 QA/QC Engineer (MEP):
- The monitoring of executions of works at site and should be as per the approved shop drawings and
project specifications.
- Ensure WIRs and MIRs are being raised for activities in timely manner and inspected by the
Consultant/Client.
- Check and ensure that all activities / work done / completed prior to offer for consultant/Client

inspection.
- He will follow and carried out all the relevant tests as per project specifications.
- Obtain the required clearance prior to Consultant’s/Client inspections.
- Should acquire any necessary civil works clearances and coordination.
- Coordinate with site construction team. One who will assist the Consultant Engineer/Client Engineer /
Inspector during inspection.
4.5 Site Foreman
- The carrying-out of work and the proper distribution of all the available resources in coordination with
the Site Engineer daily.
- Daily reports of the works are achieved and coordinated for the future planning with the Site Engineer.
- Incorporate all the QA/QC and Safety requirements as requested by the concerned Engineer.
- Meeting with any type of unforeseen incident or requirement and reporting the same to the Site
Engineer immediately.
4.6 Safety Officer
- The implementation of all safety measures in accordance with the HSE plan and that the whole work
force is aware of its proper implementation.
- The implementation of safety measures is adequate to maintain a safe working environment on the
work activity.
- Inspection of all the site activities and training personnel in accident prevention and its proper reporting
to the Construction Manager and the Project Manager.
- The site is maintained in a clean and tidy manner.
- Ensure only trained persons shall operate the power tools.
- Ensure all concerned personals shall use PPE and all other items as required.
- Ensure adequate lighting is provided in the working area at nighttime.
- Ensure high risk elevated areas are provided are barricade, tape, safety nets and provided with ladders.
- Ensure service area/inspection area openings are provided with barricade, tape, and safety nets.
- Always ensure safe access to site work.
5.0 SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
- Ensure only trained persons shall operate the power tools.
- Ensure all concerned personals shall use PPE and all other items as required.
- Ensure adequate lighting is provided in the working area at nighttime.
- Ensure service area/work area openings are provided with barricade, tape, and safety nets.

ensure maximum ability of safe work and dust mask when require.
- Megger of 500V & 1000V as required.
7.0 RAW MATERIALS
- All materials shall be procured from approved vendors.
- All the materials like Earthing Rod, Earthing Cable & Earthing tape etc. shall be as per specification.
Test Certificate must be submitted along with catalogue while approving.
- All the Test Certificates shall be reviewed by QA/QC engineer before approving and can ask for
additional tests if required.
- The raw materials shall be brought to store after approval.
- The raw material shall be properly stored.
8.0 WORK PROCEDURE
8.1 Work Sequence and Methodology
- Check all material delivered to site is inspected properly by QA/QC Engineer and check if it is stored
properly as per manufacturer’s recommendations.
- MIR shall be raised for the inspection of materials received at site to the Consultant Engineer.
- Work shall be carried out by the site staff under strict supervision and guidance of the concerned
Supervisors / Foremen / Engineers.
- The QA/QC Engineer shall check all the installations as per the Installation Check list.
- WIR shall be prepared by QA/QC Engineer and will be submitted to consultant/Client for
inspection and approval.
- QA/QC Engineer is responsible for all installation activities for getting the work inspected and
approved by Consultant / Client Engineer.
8.2 Handling and storage:
- On receipt of earthing materials at site necessary precautions shall be taken for unloading, shifting &
storage as follows.

- Materials shall be stored in a covered / dry space at all the time to avoid corrosion.
- On receipt of earthing materials, the same shall be offered for inspection to Client and to be recorded
as per the Material Inspection Report.
- Earthing Materials should be checked with respect to specification & standards.
- Any discrepancies, damages etc. found will be notified and reported for further action.
- Material found not suitable for site use will be removed from site immediately.
8.3 Installation Procedure for Earthing
General Standards
- Ensure that the work area is ready and safe to start the installation of Earthing.
- Prior to start the installation, refer to the approved shop drawings related to the area of installation
and ensure that required materials are available at site as per approved material submittals.
- While issuing from the site store, ensure that the materials are free of any damage or deformity of any
kind; all materials and accessories should also be free of dust, scale or oil. Damaged material to be
rejected for replacement.
- Ensure that the issued materials are of approved specifications / submittals and as per the requirement
of the area shop drawings. (i.e. Make, Size, Model / Type etc.).
- Prior to installation of electrodes inspection shall be carried out for any physical damage.
- Shifting to earth electrodes, flats shall be done from store to site manually in a proper manner.
- Earthing electrode installation shall be done as per the recommended procedure.
- The earth rod shall be driven in earth. The earth resistance value shall be measured, and all the values
shall be recorded.
- The earth pit shall be installed after completion of installation of earth rods connection and a clear
gap as per standard shall be maintained between top of earth electrode and pit cover. Earth pit top
shall be level with the finished level in the area.
- Concerned Engineer / Site supervisor shall ensure the locations of all earth pits as per the approved
shop drawings. Ensure the location of earth pits are coordinated with other external services like
water supply, drainage pipelines, external lighting system etc.
- The earth electrodes shall relate to main earth grid.
- The interconnection of Cable pits / earth bars shall be done as per the approved drawings.
- All earthing connections shall be made after cleaning the surface thoroughly a tightness checks for
each connection shall be performed.
- All hardware used for earthing installation shall be galvanized.
- Wherever cable trenches / cable trays are available, the earth strip shall be laid in trenches, trays,
suitable cleaned and clamped on wall.
- Earthing strip shall be laid in such a manner, no mechanical damages should occur.
- All joints below ground shall be welded and suitably protected by anti-corrosive paint coating.
- Spacing between earth electrodes and from nearest structure shall be maintained as per standards.
- Visual inspection of welded joints of earthing strips and continuity shall be done before painting and

backfilling.
- Wherever earth strips joined, the overlapping shall be enough as per the standards.
- Visual inspection shall be carried out to ensure the strip is continuous.
- Continuity of earth connections shall be checked for every link in the network.
- The heavy equipment shall be earthed at 02 locations.
- In substation, the star point of the transformer shall be solidly earthed separately with dedicated earth
pits. The location of the earth pits shall be closed to the transformer yard as per standard.
- All the earth connection shall be properly made to get good electrical conductivity. All paint, scaling
and foreign material shall be removed from contact.
- Cable shall be terminated with the correct size of compression lugs.
- For all the earthing pit after final installation permanent marking need to be provided with painting
for ease of Identification.
- Coordination with architectural & civil services shall be carried out.
- On completion of total earthing system and testing, reports shall be submitted for approval.
Plate Electrode
- Materials of the plate electrode shall be as per approved technical data sheet.
- Dimension of the plate shall be as per approved drawing and approved TDS.
- Plate shall be inserted inside the ground with proper depth and need to be encased with salt
and charcoal as per approved OEM.
- After completion of installation chamber with cover need to be provided.
Prohibited Connections
- Neutral conductors, Sprinkler pipes, or pipes conveying gas, liquids or inflammable liquids, structural
steel works, metallic enclosure, metallic conduits and lighting protection system conductors shall not
be used as means of earthing an installation or even as a link in an earthing system. However, these
are to be effectively earth bonded.
Resistance to Earth
- The main power earth mat and clean earth system shall have a resistance not more than 1 ohm 0.5
ohm respectively.
- The electrical resistance should be measured in between the earth connection in the main switch
board and at any other point in electrical system.
Equipments Earthing
- All the apparatus or equipments transmitting or utilizing power shall be earthed properly.
- Metallic conduit shall not be used as an earth continuity conductor.
- All metal junctions and switch boards shall have an inside earth stud to which earth conductor shall
be connected.

- The three phase power panels and distribution board shall have 2 distinct earth connections.
- The three phase motors and other three phase apparatus shall have 2 distinct connections.
Artificial Treatment of Soil/Ground
- If earth resistance is too high and the multiple electrodes do not give adequate low resistance as
specified above then the soil/ground resistivity immediately surrounding the earth electrodes shall be
reduced by adding sodium chloride, sodium carbonate, calcium chloride, copper sulphate,salt and soft
cock or charcoal in suitable proportion.
