A. Read the passage and answer the following questions :. 20
Siddhartha Gautama was born in 563 BC. His father ruled a state in Northern
India near the Himalayas. Strangely enough, the man who discovered the cause
of unhappiness knew little about it when he was young. His father tried to protect
him from all knowledge of sickness ,pain ,suffering and death. Siddhartha spent
his early years within palaces and gardens where all was beautiful and pleasant.
When he left the palace grounds his father sent servants to clear the road of any
painful sights. As a result Siddhartha knew nothing about unhappiness.
In spite of all his father did , Siddhartha did eventually learn of unhappiness.
Once as he was riding in his chariot he came upon a frail old man. Then he saw another
man suffering from a dreaded disease . Later he met some men carrying the body of
one who had died. When Siddhartha asked about those who suffered from old age, disease
and death, he was told: “ This happens to all men.” For the first time Siddhartha understood
that unhappiness was a part of life.
