Summative Assessment
Students will choose the best materials for a particular challenge. For example, making a boat of suitable materials to
get across the water or make a shelter with suitable materials to protect from the rain. Students will write a scientic
report to record this.
How you can help your child at home?
Assist your child with some cooking tasks at home. Document these and bring them to school. (Paper,
photographic or movie record)
Experiment with the different materials.
Check the water proof capabilities of various materials.
Conduct a fair test of water absorbency of different materials.
Take a selection of materials or cooking ingredients and see what happens when they are heated or cooled.
Bring any books or websites that we can use at school.
English Language Focus:
The focus will be on creating and interpreting visual texts - diagrams
The vocabulary focus is the terminology associated with writing cause and effect accounts and procedures.

Visual Arts
In Art the Grade 2 students will explore how Textile materials go through changes. The
students will experiment how different fabrics and materials change. They will look at the
changes that occur to materials when they are heated, making observations of change and
recording the observations through a photo essay of the material type and the changes that
happen.

Music
The Grade 2 students will sing age-appropriate songs from a variety of cultures in unison, with
an emphasis on proper tone quality, posture and diction. They will also hear and describe
music and instruments of diverse cultures and styles. They will begin to discuss the feelings
and moods created by music. In addition, they will use rhythm cards to explore note values
and rests.
PE
Students in Grade 2 will develop basic game-playing skills with a focus on throwing and
catching. They will play games using nets, such as tennis and badminton. They will be
introduced into the general history of the game of badminton and general sportsmanship
involved in this sport.
Chinese Language Focus:
Students will learn about how Cai Lun of Donghan Dynasty used varies of materials to invent
paper.
