JANUARY
INTRODUCTION/SUMMARY
January marked the continuation of my professional progress, expanding upon the foundation
established in December and preceding months. I delved deeper into various aspects of Computer
engineering, including software development, embedded systems, and data analysis. I also
acquired significant expertise in project management, problem-solving, and teamwork.
RELEVANT DUTIES and/or ACTIVITIES
Software Management and Programming:
3D simulating software installation on the Business Development Manager's PC.
G-codes structure analysis of CNC machine programming language.
Familiarized myself with the Metabase Business Intelligence, testing potential applications of
database applications for the Intellectual Property Management System.
Embedded Systems Engineering:
Sensor data collection from the CNC machine, such as lubricating oil level, spindle speed, and feed
rate. Analysed lubricating oil sensor's data acquisition to identify potential areas for anomaly in the
CNC machine's embedded system.
Conducted DSK-1 board diagnostics of a Booster Pump Control System. This involved testing input
and output signals from sensors, examining output signals to the booster pump, and analysing the
logic and programming of the DSK 1 board.
Projects Management:
Collaborated in incubation projects review meetings, where I contribute with Computer engineering
aspects to enhance projects flow in incubation.
Designed the Innovation Hub projects book for Vice Chancellor's presentation to the Ministry of
Higher Tertiary Education.
Data Analysis and Visualization:
Assisted the Assistant Registrar with the reports compilation and visualisation.
Troubleshooting and Maintenance:
Diagnosed and fixed a tea-spilled PC keyboard.
Recalibrated batteries for an uninterrupted power supply on the Main Building downstairs power
supply.
PROBLEMS
Time Management Challenges: Overlapping tasks and events led to scheduling conflicts,
complicating the management of multiple responsibilities.
Hardware Failures: Encountered issues with a tea-spilled keyboard and pump control system board,
requiring extensive diagnostics which delayed work progress.
Network Instability: Faulty network switch caused connectivity issues, necessitating collaborative
troubleshooting to restore stability.
Tool Resource shortage: Incorporating certain diagnostics on our ongoing projects and
troubleshootings required sophisticated instruments which extended timelines, necessitating
additional revisions and testing phases.
ANALYSIS
This month provided valuable insights of the technical applications of real-world scenarios. Working
on software development, embedded systems, data analysis, and projects management presented
opportunities for learning and development.
Receiving constructive criticism from my Supervisor and using it to improve skills, knowledge, and
performance paved a massive growth opportunity.
Collaborating with various teams fostered a better understanding of interdisciplinary work in
innovation and research.
Technical tasks like booster pump control system diagnostics and network troubleshooting
required collaborative efforts.
Regular maintenance and problem-solving were vital in ensuring smooth operations.
CONCLUSION
All things considered, January was a busy month driven by intensive and gratifying hands-on
experience in several engineering fields including software development, embedded systems, data
analysis, project management, and maintenance. The obstacles faced, including diagnosing the
booster pump and creating the project book, provided chances for learning and growth,
highlighting the significance of problem-solving, critical thinking, and adaptation within an
engineering framework.
