### Image Representation in Computers

Computers represent images in two ways: Raster Graphics and Vector Graphics.

**Raster Graphics**: These images are made up of small dots called pixels. Each pixel has its own

color, and when combined, they form an image. Examples are photos and digital paintings.

Common formats are .jpeg, .png, .bmp, and .gif.

**Vector Graphics**: These images are made using lines, curves, and shapes. They can be resized

without losing quality. Common formats are .svg and .ai.

### Multimedia Image/Graphics Formats & Their Use

- **.svg**: Used for vector graphics on websites.

- **.bmp**: Bitmap images, high quality but large file size.

- **.jpeg**: Common for photos, compressed and small size.

- **.gif**: Supports animations and transparent background.

- **.png**: Used for transparent background images.

- **.webp**: Modern image format, small size and high quality.

### Audio Formats

- **.wav**: High quality sound, large size.

- **.mp3**: Compressed audio, small size, commonly used.

- **.m4a**: Apple's audio format, better quality than MP3.

- **.flac**: High quality, lossless audio format.

- **.aac**: Compressed audio, better than MP3.

### Video Formats

- **.mp4**: Most common video format, used on most devices.

- **.mov**: Apple's video format.

- **.avi**: Old format, larger file size.

- **.mkv**: High-quality video format with subtitles support.

- **.webm**: Web video format, small size and high quality.

### Animation

Animation is showing a series of images quickly to create the illusion of movement.

**Types of Animation**:

- Traditional Animation: Hand-drawn frames.

- 2D Animation: Digital flat images moving.

- 3D Animation: Digital 3D models moving.

- Stop Motion: Real objects moved frame by frame.

**2D vs 3D Animation**:

- 2D: Flat images, less realistic.

- 3D: Three-dimensional objects, more realistic.

**Principles of Animation**:

- Squash and Stretch: Shows weight and flexibility.

- Timing: Speed of movement.

- Anticipation: Preparing for action.

- Staging: Clear presentation of action.

- Follow Through: Actions that continue after the main action.

### Multimedia Authoring Tools

These are software programs used to create multimedia content like videos, animations, and

presentations.

**Examples**:

- Adobe Animate: Used for 2D animation.

- Adobe Premiere Pro: Video editing.

- Blender: 3D animation.

- Canva: Simple graphic design.

### Storyboarding

Storyboarding is creating a series of drawings to plan a video or animation.

### Combining & Synchronising Multimedia Content

It means joining images, audio, and video together in a timeline and making them play at the right

time.

### Logic Flowchart

A flowchart is a diagram that shows the steps of a process.

**Types of Flowcharts**:

- Process Flowchart: Shows how a process works.

- Decision Flowchart: Shows decisions and outcomes.

- Data Flowchart: Shows how data moves.
