MSc Bioinformatics Programme

About the Programme: The MSc Bioinformatics programme combines knowledge from
biological and computational disciplines. An MSc in Bioinformatics is important because it
prepares students to work in a variety of settings, including research institutions, biotech, and
pharma industries.

Bioinformatics Skill set and Career opportunities: The program provides students with
skills to analyze complex biological data, which is in high demand in the job market.
Bioinformatics specialists are in high demand due to developments in big data analytics,
personalised medicine, proteomics, and genomics. Gaining a master's degree can increase
work prospects and possibly lead to higher-paying jobs in government, business, or academia.
The job roles after MSc bioinformatics are database programmer, computational biologist,
network administrator, research scientist, bioinformatics software developer, etc. To add to
this The bioinformatics field is evolving rapidly, integrating computer science, statistics,
mathematics, and biology elements into the research and study. Artificial intelligence and
machine learning integration have changed the way data analysis, pattern identification,
predictive modelling, drug discovery, etc. used to be done.

Eligibility: MSc Bioinformatics is a 2-year full-time postgraduate course which can be

pursued by students after a bachelor’s degree in various backgrounds including biological
sciences, computer science, information technology, computer engineering, etc.

Justification: Over the past few years, in AIB, the quantity and quality of students pursing
BTech Bioinformatics have increased immensely. Looking at the rise of students in graduate
programme introducing a PG programme is the need of the hour. This will not only increase
the overall admissions in the department but also enhance the students retention from UG to
PG in AIB. Moreover, with the progressive rise in admissions to the BSc Biotechnology
programme, the students would also be a potential candidate for taking admission in MSc
Bioinformatics.
