Course Description: This course explains the nature and essential


features of a language. It Provides an overview of the phonological system,
morphological system, syntactic system, and semantic system of the English
Language. It gives an introduction to discourse as well as language
acquisition and language change.

Learning outcomes: The students should be able to:


 Explain the nature of language
 Define the discipline of linguistics and its major subfields
 Describe and analyze the essential features of the English
Language System, and
 Explain how knowledge of the English Language System leads to
