STAFFING FORMULA

1) Categorize the patients according to levels of care need.


LEVELS OF CARE
Minimal Care .30
Moderate Care .45
Intensive Care .15
Highly Specialized Nursing Care .1
Formula: # of beds/patients x Levels of Care
Ex. 250 beds/patients (Intensive Care)

(Minimal Care) - 250 x .30 = 75


(Moderate Care) - 250 x .45 = 112.5
(Intensive Care) - 250 x .15 = 37.5
(Highly Specialized Care) - 250 x .1 = 25
Total: 250

2) Find the number of Nursing Care Hours (NCH) needed per day at each level of care per day.
Formula: Total from each Level of care x Nursing Care Hours (NCH)

Level I 1.5 5:45
Self Care or Minimal Care
Level II 3 60:40
Moderate or Intermediate Care

Ex.
(I) - 75 x 1.5 = 112.5
(II) - 112.5 x 3 = 337.5
(III) - 168.75 x 4.5 = 168.75
(IV) - 25 x 6 =160

Total: 768.75 (NCH/Day)

3) Find the total NCH needed by 250 patients per year.


Formula: Total of NCH/Day x 365 days
Ex. 768.75 x 365 = 280,593.73 NCH/year

4) Find the actual working hours rendered by each nursing personnel per year
Formula: 8 hrs/day x 213 (working days/year)
Ex. 8 x 213 = 1,704 (working hours/year)
5) Find the total number of nursing personnel needed. (Round off)

a. Formula: = = 164.55/165

b. Formula: Total in letter A x 0.15 (Total nsg. Personnel) = 165 x 0.15 = 25

c. Formula: Total in letter A + 25 = 165 + 25 = 190 (Total Nursing personnel needed)

6) Categorize to professional and non-professional personnel ratio to non-prof in a tertiary hospital

124 x .45 = 56 (AM shift)
124 x .37 = 46 (PM shift)

66 x .37 = 24 (PM shift)
66 x .18 = 12 (Night Shift)
