IV. PROCEDURES
NOTE: EXPECTED RESPONSE ARE IN RED FONTS
Routinary Activities:
Prayer
Important reminders:
- Classroom rules (flash each pictures/emojis on the screen
and ask learners to explain what message each converys:
(sit properly, feet in proper place, raise hand before
talking or if there’s a need to ask and asking permission to
do personal necessities)
(keep quiet)
(wearing mask is important, to lessen the risk of covid-19)
(apply alcohol as often as possible)
- Group performance
This emoji will be obtained by the group for every correct
answer/response given. Equivalent point is 5.
This emoji will given to a group for any of the following
misbehavior observed; noisy, standing, or any
unnecessary activity done. At the end of the activity this
emoji will be paired to the other emoji and voids the point
earned.
Review: Commutative property, addition of polynomials and
laws of exponent.
*Commutative property – the order of the factors does
not affect the product.
Example:
2x4=4x2
3x + 5y = 5y + 3x
*Addition of polynomials – follows the rule in adding
integers
Example:
4y + 6
7y – 8
11y – 2
*Laws of exponent:
Example:
1. Express 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 using exponent.
2. Evaluate: 52 = ____
A. Reviewing the previous
lesson or presenting the new
lesson
B. Establishing a purpose for the Intradisciplinary link from Mathematics – Geometry
lesson
The concept of multiplying polynomials can be associated with
finding the areas of a rectangle to concretize and facilitate
understanding of the concept.
Recall: Finding the area given its length and width.
What is the area of the rectangle with length 4 units and
width 2 units as shown below?
Using the formula for the area of a rectangle,
A = lw
= (4)(2)
A = 8 units
The area of the rectangle is 8 units.
C. Presenting 1. Find the area of the rectangle below:
examples/instances of the
new lesson
Using the formula:
=c⦁a
A = LW
A = ca or A = ac (commutative property)
2. Given the figure below, find its area.
A = 3x ⦁ 3x
A = 9x2
D. Discussing new concepts and Interdisciplinary link in English – formulating the rules in
practicing new skills #1 multiplying polynomials.
Based on the given example, how do we multiply monomials?
Guide the students to derive the steps on multiplying monomials.
Guide questions:
1. How did we come up with 9?
(Multiply the numerical coefficients, 3 times 3)
2. How about x2?
(Multiply x times x)
3. Can you state now the rule in multiplying monomial by a
monomial?
Rule in multiplying monomial by a monomial:
To multiply a monomial by another monomial, simply
multiply the numerical coefficients then multiply the literal
coefficients by applying the laws of exponents.
Distribute the activity sheet to each group. Instruct that the names of
E. Discussing new concepts and the following must be written:
practicing new skills #2
Leader - leads and takes charge of the group including behavior
during the activity
Secretary – in charge of taking notes and other writing activity
Rapporteur – reports and explains the output of the group
Members – timekeeper, runner, keeps the emojis received
Note: Worksheets are printed in large fonts to ensure that learners
with difficulty seeing can clearly read the instructions and exercises.
Group Activity:
The rectangle below is divided into two regions,
a. find the area of each region
b. area of the whole rectangle (sum of areas of regions)
Guide Questions:
1. What is the area of each of these regions?
2. What is the total area of the given rectangle?
3. How else can we find the area of the rectangle whose sides
are (a + b) and c?
4. What equality can we state?
5. Based on the activity, can you formulate the steps in
multiplying monomial by a polynomial?
Expected answers:
1. ac
2. ac + ab
3. Multiply c by (a + b).
4. To multiply monomial by a polynomial, simply apply
distributive property and follow the rule in multiplying
monomial by a monomial.
Scoring system for group activity:
Total minus equals group score.
F. Developing mastery (Leads Find the product of the following polynomials.
1. 5x2 ⦁ 3x6
to Formal Assessment)
2. -y3z2 ⦁ yz
3. (8xy) (2xy5)
4. (xy) (x2 + x + 8)
5. 2x (4x2 – 5x + 3)
G. Finding practical applications
of concepts and skills in daily 1. Amer is a devoted Muslim student who goes to the Mosque
living every Friday noon to offer obligatory prayer. He diligently
walks to the Mosque after morning classes and then walks
back to school to attend afternoon classes. If the distance
from Mosque to school is represented by (x + 4) meters, what
is the total distance Amer has to walk every Friday?
2. The Manobo attire shown above is sold at 1,200 pesos at
shoppee.com. Suppose Edward wants to buy (x + 3) pieces to
be given to his uncles in Malita. How much money does
Edward need?
H. Making generalizations and
abstractions about the lesson Guide the students to restate the following rules:
1. To multiply a monomial by another monomial, simply
multiply the numerical coefficients then multiply the literal
coefficients by applying the laws of exponents.
2. To multiply a monomial by a polynomial, simply apply the
distributive property and follow the rule in multiplying
monomial by a monomial.
I. Evaluating learning A. Multuply the following monomials.
B. Problem solving.
If I bought 10 pencils which cost (5x – 1) pesos each, how
much will I pay for it?
J. Additional activities for To multiply polynomials correctly, we need to observe the laws of
applications or remediation exponents and the rules in simplifying operations.
Interdisciplinary linking to Values Education and English
Reflection:
Why are laws and rules important for peace and order in the school
and community? What do you think will happen if people disregard
the laws?
Reflection guidelines:
1. Not less than 30 words
2. Write in a ½ crosswise paper.
3. Submit tomorrow.
