Interpreting 2

The document provides formulas for calculating the circumference and area of circles, including semi-circles and quarter-circles. It defines key terms such as area, circumference, radius, and diameter, and includes practice problems with solutions. The formulas used are circumference = πd or π2r and area = πr^2, with examples demonstrating their application.

1 Circumference
&area
Of a circle
Learning Target:
to learn the formula for the
circumference and area of a
circle
Vocab:
Area :the extent or measurement of a
surface or piece of land.
Circumference :the enclosing boundary of a
curved geometric figure, especially a circle.
Key Words:
Area Circumference Radius Diameter
the extent or measurement of a surface or piece of land.
Process:Circumference
circumference=πd or π2r

r: Radius
d:diameter

r: Radius
d:diameter
Process: Area
Area=πr^2
r: Radius
REMEMBER:
d:diameter Diameter= raduisx2
Radius= diameter /2
Practice:
A circle has a radius of 3cm. Find the area and
circumference of the circle. Use π as 3.14
Answers:
Area = 3.14x3^2
=3.14x9= 28.26
circumfrence= 3.14x(3x2)
=3.14x6= 18.84
Word Problem
Find the area
A table has a shape of a circle. Find the area of the
circle when the diameter is 10cm.Use π as 3.14
Answer
Diameter=10
radius= diameter/2=5
Area= 3.14x5^2
= 3.14x25=78.5cm
Process: Area of semi circle
Since a semi circle is half a circle we could
get the formula of a semi circle by dividing
the area of a circle in half

Area of πr^2
semicircle | 2
S
Practice:
A semi-circle has a radius of 5cm. Work out the area
of this semi-circle. use π as 3.14
Answers:
Area = (3.14 x 5^2) / 2
= 3.14 x 25 = 78.5
= 78.5 / 2 = 39.25cm
Process: Area of a quarter-circle
A quarter-circle is evidently a quarter of a
circle, so we can work out the solution by
simply dividing the area of the circle by 4.

area of πr^2

Practice:
A quarter-circle has a radius of 2cm. Work out the
area of this quarter-circle. π=3.14
Answers:
Area = (3.14 x 2^2) / 4
= 3.14x4 / 4
= 12.56/4= 3.14
