Lifespan Development Activity

There are two parts to the interview schedule. Part I is to be answered by your caregiver. Part II
is a self-reflection that you have to answer yourself.

I. Questions to ask your parents/grandparent or another person who was a primary


caregiver at the time of your childhood.
(You can ask one person or everyone who was around during your childhood and see if
their responses are similar or different )

1) What is my birth date and time of birth?


2) What was the day of the week I was born on?
3) Any significant event/episode around my birthdate? (e.g festival, heavy rains, extremely
sunny, some stressful event etc)
4) Was I a full term or a premature baby?
5) How much did I weigh at birth?
6) Did I have to be kept in an incubator post birth?If yes, why?
7) The following questions are on milestones
a )At what month/age did I first stand up on my own?
b) At what month/age did I say my first word and what was it?

8) How would I react when you would leave for work/or in case you had to go somewhere?
(Would I cry or appear indifferent?)
9) How did I react when you would come back from work or returned from somewhere?
(Was I happy, upset or indifferent?)
10) Who was I more attached to growing up?
11) How did I react during games of Peekaboo?
12) What types of pretend play games did I play? (e.g. teacher-teacher/house)? What
character did I make you play in it?
13) How would I react when I would meet unknown people or guests who visited us?
14) What Is one memorable thing you remember about me from when I was a kid?
15) What did teachers say about my behaviour in school when I was in the age group of 4 to
7 years? Was it similar or different from my behaviour at home back then?

16) Right now, at my current age, how would you describe me as a person?
17) In what aspects have I shown improvement/growth as a person?
18) What was my relationship like with my elder/younger sibling? ( If only child then enquire
about relationship with cousins)
19) Do you see some bits of yourself in me? Maybe in my emotional expression, thinking
pattern etc.
20) Tell me three positive qualities within me that you want me to always cherish lifelong.
21) Is there anything else you would like to mention, or anything else that came to your mind
during this interview that I did not ask about?

II Questions to reflect and answer by the teenager.

1) Who am I? (However you want to answer this question)
2) How would I describe myself as a child (anything from when you were 4 to 11 years)
3) As a teenager, am I different from my childhood version?In what ways?
4) What do I want my career to be?
5) What do I want to be like as a person five years from now on? (some qualities/abilities
can be mentioned, e.g. confident, empathic, fluent in a language etc)
6) 5 Things that I want to improve in myself, and 5 things I am happy about myself.
7) When I am stressed or tensed, What are effective coping strategies can I use?
List down 10 effective coping strategies-(e.g positive self-talk, affirmations, speaking to
someone who is kind who can support, listening to music, meditate, exercise etc)
8) Now from those 10, narrow down to 5 that are convenient and can be easily used when
in distress.
9) If your friend was going through the same challenges and difficulties, that you were
going through, what would you say to them or do for them so that they feel better?

10) List five quotes that you would like to read everytime you feel down. (do a bit of research
for this question)

Write a thank you note to yourself. (For all that you have become with all the support you have
received/not received and you are continuing to grow, even though you may falter or be
imperfect in some areas, it is fine.

Remember, you don’t stop watering a plant just because it hasn’t grown into a tree yet. Patience
and daily efforts are what influence growth every day!
