HA Group Notification from filer1 (MEDIUM ERROR DURING RECONSTRUCTION (volume
restricted)) WARNING
Wed Feb 7 10:00:08 GMT+2 [filer1: disk.ioMediumError:warning]: Medium error on
disk 0b.82: op 0x28:00000008:0008 sector 8 SCSI:medium error - Unrecovered read
error - RAID subsystem will use parity information to reconstruct unreadable
data (3 17 1 1)
Cause
This AutoSupport message MEDIUM ERROR DURING RECONSTRUCTION indicates an error that occurred
from one of the following scenarios during a reconstruction.
The reconstruction requires reading all the blocks from all the other disks in the group. There are three possible
scenarios for such an error:
• Single media error during reconstruction in RAID 4 group
• Single media error during double reconstruction in RAID-DP group
• Two media errors in one stripe during single reconstruction in RAID-DP group
Solution
There is no workaround for this situation.
For information on how Data ONTAP tries to recover from this situation, see KB How does Data ONTAP
respond, when a medium error occurs during a disk reconstruction?
Note: A medium error during a reconstruction might cause a data loss if the block with a medium error or the
corresponding block on the disk being reconstructed is allocated. Contact NetApp Technical Support if you see
this AutoSupport message.
