McQueen left school when he was 16 years old
McQueen launched his own company making clothing for women not long after

were introduced to great success
McQueen was renowned for being unafraid to speak openly about his lower-class
upbringing and lack of conventional good looks
Alexander McQueen killed himself earlier this year after using cocaine, sleeping pills,
and tranquillizers
He was suffering from despair due to the loss of his mother
Burton, who had been McQueen's irreplaceable right-hand assistant for fourteen
years, was an obvious choice to succeed him
Most immediately, Sarah Burton was in charge of finishing the Angels and Demons
collection that McQueen had started but been unable to finish
McQueen's work was renowned for its extremely innovative fusion of tradition and
rebellion, which was immediately apparent in his "Bumster" pants, sharp frock coats,
corroded materials, ripped leather, and torn, flesh-revealing lace
British fashion designer renowned for his avant-garde attire, frightening catwalk
displays, and impeccable workmanship
The dramatic intensity of McQueen's fashion displays, which were influenced by
theatre and performance art, were well-known
McQueen participated in two V&A Fashion in Motion events during his lifetime, live
catwalk shows that were presented in front of the stunning Museum setting
McQueen launched stores in Milan, London, New York, Los Angeles, and other cities
between 2000 and 2010.
