ACTIVITY 1: PROCESSING QUESTIONS:
1. Why is your Community not an ideal one? Explain
As a person who grew up in a rural area, I can say that the Community I
am exposed at the present is not my ideal one because I am a type of
person who prefers the countryside. A simple, quiet, less pollution and
less hustle daily routine wherein I enjoy the abundance of a beautiful and
refreshing environment. In addition, remembering those days when I
was still in the province, I am acquainted or I personally know almost all
of my neighbors and that I am confident to stroll around because I know
where to seek for help in case of emergency unlike in the present place
where I live at, I am only familiar with very few of my neighbors. In
addition, the place where I grew up with sees each other as a family,
values one another and respect, that is how I envisioned a neighborhood
community where one can be at ease even in their absence in the vicinity
and one will feel safe despite some existing atrocities in the neighboring
areas. However, due to call of duty, I have learned to adapt and live
harmoniously with the people in the area.
2.What characteristics would you like to have in your community?
For me, community is composed of multifaceted people coming from all
walks of life hence, I prefer to have a community who understand
differences, inspires one another, nurtures the environment as well as
values, respect and protects each other. A peaceful community is the
key to a progressive country.
3. How can you make your community an ideal one?
To build an ideal community requires time, effort, participation,
resources and dedication from key players such as the people in the
community, stakeholders, National Government agencies, Non-
Government agencies and LGU’s. Having a progress inclusive society is
one of the initiatives where everyone is being involved to achieve an
ideal community. As the saying goes, no man is an island, hence, if we
start to be an ambassador of change for our community, we start it within
ourselves and get to involve others. In addition, let us emphasize,
respect beyond diversity to be able to understand each and every
member of the community.
ACTIVITY 2:MY COMMUNITY
Each individual sees, appreciate and interact in their community in a
different perspective. As long as one respect, understands and values the importance
of one another in maintaining the amity in the community, surely peace and progress
is just within our reach.
I am now living in a suburb community which I have learned to adopt it’s
customs and way of living however, my heart always looks forward of going back to
my hometown, Isabela City, a component City of Zamboanga Peninsula but
geographically located in the Island province of Basilan.
In the community where I grew up, I saw that we have a strong
neighborhood community in Isabela City. Due to the history and still a persisting threat
in the province of Basilan brought by the extremist terrorist groups and Separatist
rebels or secessionist, thus we have this unspoken responsibility of keeping each
other safe, looking after one another, sharing pertinent information when there exists
an imminent threat.
Growing up in Isabela City, was indeed memorable and irreplaceable
despite some of the transpired atrocities. Some members of the media only featured
bad news from our place thus embed negative image on other people who haven’t
been in Isabela. The peace loving people of Isabela City have lived harmoniously
inspite of the existence of a diverse culture and tradition. Surely, respect and discipline
plays a big factor to understand different tribes and ethnicity. Experience and
understanding indeed played a very important role to the people of the aforesaid City
because it thought us how to be resilient and paved the way towards progress and
unity. We imbibed deep within our hearts a progress inclusive society to foster a
strong-rooted, comfortable and secured society.
Now, I am taking this opportunity to show to the world, how beautiful it is
to live in a place like Isabela City. From the people, who warmly welcomes you, colorful
woven cultures and traditions, the breathtaking scenery of the nature, delicious and
mouthwatering native meals as well as custom-built tapestry and handicrafts.
