Time 3:00 – 4:00 PM Year & Section G10-Gold

I. OBJECTIVES

A. Content Standard
The learner demonstrates an understanding of key concepts of measures of position.

Performance Standard
The learner is able to conduct systematically mini research applying the different statistical methods.

B. Learning Competencies/Objectives
llustrates the following measures of position: quartiles, deciles, and percentiles.
Calculates a specified measure of position (e.g. 90th percentile) of a set of data (ungrouped).
Interprets measures of position.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:
1. Determine the quartiles, deciles, and percentiles of ungrouped data.
2. Calculate and interpret the computed values in terms of their position in the distribution.
3. Solve problems involving measures of position.

C. Learning Competency Code

M10SP-IVa-1, M10SP-IVb-1, M10SP-IVc-1

II. Content
Statistics and Probability (Measures of Position for Ungrouped Data)

IV. Procedures

A. Reviewing previous INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITY

lesson or presenting the A. The students will be given an ample time to follow directions and do an
New Lesson activity as fast as they can.

A group of students obtained the following scores in their Statistic

quiz:8, 2, 5, 4, 8, 5, 7, 1, 3, and 6.

Procedure:
1. Arrange the scores in INCREASING or DECREASING order
2. Identify the LOWEST score and HIGHEST score.

B. Presenting Present the lesson using 4 Pics 1 Word game:

examples/instances of the
new lesson

MEASURE
POSITION DIVIDE

FOUR EQUAL

PARTS

COMPLETE ME:

Using some words you have unlocked from the previous activity, complete
the sentence by putting the appropriate word from the blank.

Our lesson for today is about ______________ (Measure) of

________________ (Position).

Measures of Position
- are techniques that _________ (divide) a set of data into _________
(equal) groups

The three measure of positions are: ______________ (quartiles),

__________ (deciles) and ________________ (percentiles).
C. Discussing new concepts a.) Use the result of the activity to discuss three measures of position for
and practicing new skills * 1 ungrouped data.
b.) Discuss how to calculate and interpret measures of position.

Important Note:
In 𝑸𝟏 if the value falls halfway between two integers, round up.
However, in 𝑸𝟑 , round down.

Important Note:
Always round off to the nearest integer.

Important Note: Always round off to the nearest integer.

c.) Give illustrative examples on how to calculate and interpret each
measure of position.

1. Given the data set: 1, 3, 7, 7, 16, 21, 27, 30, 31. Find the
quartiles and interpret the result.

Answer:

2. Given the series: 3,5,7,4,6,2,9. Calculate the 2nd and 4th decile
and interpret the result.

Answer:
2nd Decile = 3 ; Interpretation: 20% of the data is lower or equal to 3.

4th Decile = 4 ; Interpretation: 40% of the data is lower or equal to 4.

3. The test score of a sample of 20 students in a class are as

follows:
20,30,21,29,10,17,18,15,27,25,16,15,19,22,13,17,14,18,12 and
9. Find the value of P10 and P20. Then interpret the result.

Answer:
P10 = 10 ; Interpretation: 10% of the scores of the students is lower
than 10 and 90% is higher than 10.
P20 = 13 ; Interpretation: 20% of the students scored lower than or
equal to 13 and 80% scored higher than 13.
P80 = 25 ; Interpretation: 80% of the scores of the students is lower
than 25 and 20% is higher than 25.
D. Discussing new concepts
and practicing new skill #2 Post the illustration below and let the students analyze the picture.

4. List down conclusions that can be generated from the given

illustration.
E. Developing Mastery Let the student answer the activity below.

and abstractions about
lesson

H. Evaluating Learning EVALUATION:

Let the students answer the given activity.
